Last Thursday afternoon, August 24, while Rabbi Nosson Grunblatt, a Shliach in Buenos Aires, along with two assistants were working in the office two robbers charged into the offices of Kehot Lubavitch, and attacked them and robbed them of all their money and valuables.

The hoodlums came in yelling, “This is a robbery,” and indicated that they had weapons on their persons, but not displaying them. While gathering all the electronic equipment, including all cell phones, one of the robbers punched Rabbi Grunblatt in the face, accusing him of trying to place a call.

They then took all the jewelry from the rabbi's secretary and all the cash from the third victim, who had just withdrawn a substantial sum of money he needed for his aging mother, who is a Holocaust survivor.

Robbery At The Offices of Kehot Lubavitch in Argentina

Last Thursday afternoon, August 24, while Rabbi Nosson Grunblatt, a Shliach in Buenos Aires, along with two assistants were working in the office two robbers charged into the offices of Kehot Lubavitch, and attacked them and robbed them of all their money and valuables.

The hoodlums came in yelling, “This is a robbery,” and indicated that they had weapons on their persons, but not displaying them. While gathering all the electronic equipment, including all cell phones, one of the robbers punched Rabbi Grunblatt in the face, accusing him of trying to place a call.

They then took all the jewelry from the rabbi’s secretary and all the cash from the third victim, who had just withdrawn a substantial sum of money he needed for his aging mother, who is a Holocaust survivor.

Rabbi Grunblatt then dashed out the door and yelled for help, but no help arrived. His shouts, however, did prompt the robbers to run away and get lost into the crowds of people.

When police arrived, they took a report and said they would come back later to collect evidence, but they did not return until Friday evening, when the office was closed. They do not appear to be in any great hurry to catch the thugs.

Rabbi Grunblatt heads Kehot Lubavitch of Argentina, which supplies the world with Lubavitch publications translated into Spanish. Grunblatt has thus far translated the Siddur, Tanya, scores of other Torah works and many children’s books. It is estimated that over 500,000 books have been printed and sold.

In addition to the loss of money, equipment and data, Grunblatt anticipates great expenses for the extensive security that will now be required to continue working. Anyone who has the ability to help this important Chabad institution recover from this robbery may send their contribution to: Rabbi Yosef Levin, Chabad of Greater South Bay, 3070 Louis Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303. Telephone: 650-424-9800.

One hundred percent of funds donated will be promptly sent to Rabbi Grunblatt. Please indicate that your contribution is designated for Kehot Lubavitch of Buenos Aires Recovery Fund.

    Reality Check:
If this had happened in CH, everyone would be up in arms about how terrible crime is here and how no-one is doing anything.
But the honest truth is that this kind of stuff is going on all over the World.
Chabad.info’s English site has a couple of stories about horrific anti-semitic attacks that took place in London recently.
Ask anyone who was in Yeshivas Kayitz in Russia over the Summer and they’ll tell you they were cursed at everywhere they went, and that once they were even threatened with a knife.
There have been a couple of bias attacks by arabs in Cali. recently, resulting in fatalities too.
(The Seattle Jewish Center, and the mowing downs of innocents by an arab in an SUV a
    couple of days ago).
So Crown Heights is really a place that is no different to anywhere else in the World, regardless of the incidents that you may read about online.
I encourage all young families thinking of moving here to take the plunge. I have many friends who have moved here recently from different areas and none of them regret it. now’s the time to build up the up-and-coming neighborhood South of Empire. There are plenty of new condos being built on Lefferts / Brooklyn + ENY / Maple – and the community down here will welcome you with open arms :)

Don’t forget Midwood Street between Kingston and Brooklyn. You can get a good deal there. I think that the realtors should push area more. I like the Rogers Avenue area myself, but many have moved away. It used to be great. Im looking into Fenimore street myself, you wouldnt believe the deals!

I don’t personally encourage families to move to our shchuna. From what I’ve heard, it isn’t easy for people to find jobs that will pay enough to cover the exorbitant expenses of living in Crown Heights. As for living in the areas mentioned above, I think it’s a real risk for one’s safety. I have lived in Crown Heights for years, and it’s not what I would call a "nice" place to raise children, etc. It’s crowded and people are generally rude to one another. The spiritual ecstasy of 770 is even polluted by the corruption of public intoxication, a real chillul on Shabbos, let me tell you. Unless you have the opportunity to have a very good income, you’re in a whole heap of trouble here in the shchuna. There’s nowhere safe and Jewish for the children to play, either. As a father, that upsets me. If people moving here could see the state of the tznius here before coming, they might not choose to make the move, either. I can hardly shop in stores without a female clerk trying to hand me the change directly to my palm, or see male clerks doing the same with female customers. In Yiddishe stores, one can purchase food under questionable hashgochoh, Satmarer foods, totally immodest apparel, treif magazines, you name it. Why move to Crown Heights and deal with all of that when you can get less expensive and more pleasant housing elsewhere? I live here because I am settled here with children in school and the like. However, I don’t recommend it to others in the vast majority of cases.

how did the goyim get upstairs to the office? someone needs to buzz you in. or did they do enough surveillance to know that those heavy doors dont close good?
hope they recover soon, with hashems help. they do great work.

  • i luv CH

attention YYL: Crown Heights is the Rebbe’s Shchuna and a very special and holy place to live! There is a lot of good going on in Crown Heights, and a lot of holiness, it is only Your choice what to focus on and notice. Crown Heights is a wonderful place, and 770 is the Rebbe’s shul and a true inspiration to all who are able to be inspired!!! it upsets me to hear someone speak this way about our Shchuna. Moshiach Now!

to YYL: There are other communties with fine schools, and perhaps you can have parnossa there. Spend this year investigating. And as far as the puerto rican help at many of the fine food establishments, why dont you suggest to the owners/managers to either fill in the help as to how to handle change or simply put a plastic plate on the counter for that purpose. No need to run away for that. As far as public intoxication in 770 goes, that isnt going to stop, but what is interesting is that on any Shabbos afternoon on Albany by Union there is always a huge crowd of bochurim and fresh puddles of vomit. Guess where they were coming from?

  • Kahan Tzivoh Hashem ess Habrachah!

    Dear yyl

I’m sorry you sound so bitter. You must need some help or maybe another pair of glasses. Every place has its plusses and minuses but you make it sound like the grass is greener anywhereand everywhere.
