Chabad’s Kosher Cruise – a success in Atlantic City

Atlantic City, NJ — The sky was clear and the sun shone bright as Chabad At The Shore’s Kosher Cruise set sail for a scenic excursion of the back bays of Atlantic City. One-hundred-fifty people showed up and joined in making history as the first ever Kosher Cruise in South Jersey set sail.

With a huge banner declaring “Kosher Cruise” and with Jewish music blaring from its loudspeakers, the Kosher Cruise announced its presence to all. Hundreds of spectators, on the beaches along the shore and on their boats on the bay waved to the Cruise as they passed, marveling at the novel idea.

On board, participants enjoyed a Kosher BBQ as they dined on deck chairs and tables on the first floor. Upstairs, a bar was set up with plenty of seating. Throughout the duration of the Cruise, people were able to put on Tefillin, receive Neshek and ask questions about Judaism at the Mivtzoim booth.

After an hour of enjoying the sun and the view, everyone gathered upstairs for the children’s rally and the entertainment that would follow. As the children sang Jewish songs and said the twelve Pesukim, they received raffle tickets which they used to try and win prizes with. In addition they prayed for the safety of the soldiers and our brothers and sisters in Israel.

“With so many Jewish children gathered together in one place, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to pray for Eretz Yisroel”, says Shliach, Rabbi Avrohom Rapoport, coordinator of the event.

“Every child came away with a clear understanding of how every Mitzvah he/she does can help the soldiers in Israel.”

Just as they raffled off the last prize the Kosher Cruise pulled into port, ending the memorable afternoon. Every child left the boat with his/her own copy of The Moshiach Times and an ear-to-ear smile that told of the wonderful time they had had.
