Saying he's “as Jewish as a matzo ball or kosher salami,” Jackie Mason filed a lawsuit against Jews for J for using his name and likeness in a pamphlet.

The $2 million lawsuit seeks the immediate destruction of the pamphlet, which members of the missionary group have been handing out at various points around New York City.

“While I have the utmost respect for people who practice the Christian faith, the fact is, as everyone knows, I am as Jewish as a matzo ball or kosher salami,” the 75-year-old comedian said in documents filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan.

Saying he’s “as Jewish as a matzo ball or kosher salami,” Jackie Mason filed a lawsuit against Jews for J for using his name and likeness in a pamphlet.

The pamphlets feature an image of Mason next to the words “Jackie Mason … A Jew for J****!?” with information inside that outlines the similarities between Jews and Christians.

“The pamphlet uses my name, my likeness, my ‘shtick’ (if you will), and my very act, which is derived from my personality, to attract attention and converts,” Mason said in an affidavit.

Susan Perlman, a spokeswoman for Jews for J, said the pamphlet was “good-natured.”

“Shame on him for getting so upset about this,” she said Friday.

One thing about Jackie Mason – he stands up for who he is.

Da guy’s no s*****k – even if he did teach that word to gantz New York so that even guys named Romano and Rodriguez use it these days!

  • go jackie

Good for jackie Mason for standing up for his Judaism. He never pretends to be anything but a Jew and I’m really impressed that he is suing them. I hope he gets a good judgement and allows all to know the falsehoods of these missionaries

  • a jew for chabad

    wow i’m thrilled about this
    G-d bless Jackie Mason
    he is so funny
lets all pray that the out come of this will be in chabads favor
ow and by the way Susan Perlman you r one big idiot
i hope that all jews for j find there way down to hell soon

  • jewish

their spokeswoman said "shame on him"????
shame on HER for not recognizing authentic and original judaism.

The representative of J for J in the article was quoted as saying "Shame on him for getting so upset about this.” For some reason that sentence makes me disgusted at this woman and what she stands for, more so than I already am. Here is an "organization" that’s goal is to use deciet and lies to attract unsuspecting, innocent yidden to their way of life, and which illegally and unjustly used an image of a Jewish entertainer to promote their agenda, and she has the audacity to critisize Jackie Mason for his reaction to their little political stunt. It’s about time that somebody brought a well publicized law suit against the group.

  • my opinion

i dont think he’s doing it for the money….it seems like he’s just trying to make a statement to these ppl and to the world.mason doesnt need their money hes a millionaire without the 2 million he’s suing them for…

well it serves jackie right. if he wouldn’t make fun of YIDDEN on his shows there wouldn’t be such a chillul hashem. besides who is interested in this secular entertainer for something to be posted on our heimishe website. my children go on this. i thought this was the one site i didn’t need to filter. shame on you!

  • Itzik_s

LOL – all I meant by that is that everyone in New York uses that word now – even Italians and Hispanics who have their own slang!

  • Emmett Fitzhume

Mr. Mason is a wonderful comedian! I’ll always remember his age old joke about shooting an elephant in his pajamas…Oh, wait a minute…that was Groucho Marks. Never mind…I can’t think of anything that Mr. Mason has done that was funny. Sorry… Now Rodney Dangerfield…Now there was a funny man!!!

Why don’t you put the source of this article, of which you copied off it word for word – the Star-Ledger?

  • Anonymous

    Loyal Reader;

This article is an AP article, as it states at the top right of each article that had been taken from a different news source.

If you will look closely at the Star Ledger you will see that they have it from the AP as well.

  • CN

Loyal Reader has a good point because the "AP" looks like it only goes on the photo and the "by Webby" at the end appears to be giving authorship credit to "Webby" for the article.

  • A jackei fan

anyway, if the guy has a "butter knife with tzekrochiner edge" you no he is not for Jews for J.

were you disappointed when there was a nice article about jacki mason with his picture a few years ago in the Beis Moshiach??

Jackie Mason (and his co-author Raoul Lionel Felder, the divorce attorney) wrote several opinion pieces during the early and mid 1990’s defending Israel and by extension Jews against Arabs and other haters. He is far more than a comic and he deserves respect, even if he is not really frum. I hope he wins his case; it is ridiculous for him to have his name and likeness associated with J4themanonthepogostick.

However, some of his skits may not be suitable for family listening/viewing – the one disk I had years ago was kind of borderline depending upon your view of the word I referred to in an earlier post.

although some of us think wat he is doing is right lets not forget about the dirty language that comes from that jewish mouth
mer zulen es oisvashen mit zeif

  • I smell a multy billion class action

Maybe all jews can join in and make it aclass action for trying to steal/copy the Jewish religion from all of us. This may finaly put them out of biseness instead of just getting poth parties the publicity they seek!

I think you guys are all missing the point. Jackie Mason is a very proud Jew…he was very inolved behind the scenes in the post Yankel Rosenbaum trial debacles. From what I know of him, he is not the kind of man to be fooled (funny, huh?), he is incredibly astute, intelligent, & has a first class mind. He’s also a really nice man, very kind.

Jackie Mason’s Jewish pride is evident in his lifestyle, and his act. So he’s not frum…we all have relatives who came from frum homes & gave it up.

And not all of them did it 100 years ago.

Jackie Mason is suing them as a) a Jewish decision; b) a business decision; c) a personal decision – he has no time for these sickos.

And to this Perlman fool…so Jackie shouldn’t be upset…WHAT YOU’VE DONE IS ILLEGAL!!! You just can’t "adopt" a personality for advertising w/o their permission!

Rules of business & Commerce, 101.

I’ve enjoyed reading all the comments. Thanks for the entertainment…Jackie will be proud of us all!!!

I love how everyone here has to show how much crap they know. You watch TV, then keep it to yourself. You listen to Jackie Mason, then keep it to yourself. There is no need to tell the world that you know velt. You have to advertise it?

  • another bochur

i just dont get why their are so many holier then thou people in crown hights? as if you wasting time looking at shtus on the computer is any better then watching tv!
get a life go on shilichus, dont sit arround and dictate
to others how or what is kosher enough!

p.s how, if your so frum do you know that Jackie mason has a dirty mouth? how did you know that Rodrigez or Rammano are tv stars? whats with the double standard here?

  • annoyed!

omg you corwn heighters are so pathetic! theres this issue about a good jew standing up for what he belives in and ppl have to critisize him left and right! oh yes all you gooody too shoees out there! your perfect and should never even have to read about such shtus!!!!!!!!!

  • A bochur

You aren’t too bright obviously. I wrote that you shouldn’t ADVERTISE what you know. (this deals with your issue of double standard)
And, I think it’s common sense to see what’s kosher and what’s not kosher. Don’t start telling people not to preach, TV is obviously not Kosher, and instead of agreeing with me all you do is shout that its not up to me to say TV is traif.

  • A bochur is a Shoiteh

Please don’t give "A bochur" any more attention. It’s obvious he has personal issues that he needs to deal with and it upsets him when others mention things that he sees wrong in himself.

But while we are on the topic – to "A bochur":
Internet is just as much Shtus as TV or movies, Shoiteh.
Not everyone is on your level of holiness, Mr. Holier-Than-Though

And Jackie Mason makes a lot of people more in touch with their Judaic roots then you would imagine, which in turn leads them to our Chabad Houses.

  • another bochur

no, i said stop wasting time on the computer and acctually go out and do something with your life!
instead of bashing from behind a screen.
you still prove my double standard, here you are sitting and waiting for the next post as if its what is really importent.
are you going to admit that the computer is no less of the 2 evils? or still think that you have to preach to the air waves
p.s i am no better then you, yet i dont hold my self to be holier then you! (even though i am ;-)
