Hundreds Attend Shloshim of R. Zalman Shagalov OB”M

Hundreds attended a Shloshim gathering Tuesday Evening for Rabbi Schneur Zalman halevi Shagalov OBM on at F.R.E.E. The program which Lasted for about 5 hours began with Rabbi Mendel Shagalov calling upon Chazan Reb Moshe Teleshevsky to recite the Rebbe’s Kapitel. Afterwards Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Shagalov (eldest son) made a Siyum. Next was Rabbi Elchonon Shagalov the younger son who tried speaking of loosing his friend, mentor, Rabbi, and father choked for words.

Since it is not our custom to make Hespedim many spoke About their relationships and the accomplishments of R. Zalman. Speakers included Rabbi A. Romi Cohn, the expert Mohel who preformed over 13,200 Brisim on behalf of the FREE Circumcision Program with R. Zalman. Rabbi Shlomo Aron Holzberg, Rosh Kolel Tiferes Z’Keinim. Rabbi Bruce Ginsberg, a dear friend of the family, Rabbi Tzvi Rom Rov of the Bialestocker Shul. Rabbi Gerard Meister Liaison for the state of Israel to the non Jewish clerics and mushpa of R. Zalman. Rabbi Hershel Chitrik, Rabbi Chaim Serebranski, Rabbi Yossi Light a grandson of R. Zalman. Tziyon Yakubov & Chiya Elyayev two of his many Talmidim. Rabbi Gershon Mendel Garelick, Shliach to Milan, Italy. Rabbi Yaakov Schwei and Mr. Leibe Rivkin a cousin of R. Zalman.

    To the Shagalov family,

    My last recollection of R’ Zalman while I was walking up Kingston Ave. on the Tuesday morning, after Shachris, greetd by his friendly wave and and smile.

    I personally took his passing as a tremendous loss for us all.

    May your father be a Malitz Yosher on behalf of his family, friends and Klal Yisroel.

    I really miss R’ Zalman’s chummy smile..

    zalman and i maintained a close friendship even though we didn’t always agree. he was a dear friend. i’ll miss him.

    Why do you rabbi yakov shwei as if that was just like anybody else in the crowd? Is that how you respect the Moro Deasro? The niftar Reb Zalman would have had agmas nefesh from something like that.
