A fire broke out early Thursday morning inside the ‘Gabboims Closet’ in 770, causing panic amid a number of small Yud Shvat Farbrengens that were still going on at that early hour. Police rule out terrorism.
The fire broke out at around 5:30am in the “Gabboims Closet” and was initially believed to be caused by neshama licht [memorial candles] left over from Yud Shvat.
FDNY responded within minutes and had the fire quickly under control. A number of Anash and Bochurim that were still Farbrening were evacuated.
Once the fire was put out Fire Marshals investigated and determined the cause of the fire to be electrical.
Police sources told CrownHeights.info “the fire was a in a small closet and was deemed to be electrical and not suspicious by the FDNY fire marshal. The NYPD Bomb Squad, Arson and Explosion Unit investigated the incident as well to verify the fire marshals findings and to remove the concern of terrorisim.”
Though there were no reported injuries, there was some damage caused to the room where the fire broke out.
