Democrats Take Control of Congress in Midterm Elections; Hochul Wins Reelection
by CrownHeights.info
Americans went to the polls Tuesday in a consequential midterm election that has resulted in a major shift in the balance of power in Washington, with Democrats capturing control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
The results represent a significant setback for President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans, who entered the election controlling both chambers. Democrats made substantial gains across the country, flipping several traditionally Republican seats and positioning themselves to exercise greater oversight over the Trump administration during the remainder of his term.
Among the notable Senate developments was Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan over Republican Mike Rogers. Other important Democratic victories came in Texas, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina and South Carolina.
In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul won reelection, defeating Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman. Hochul’s victory gives her another four-year term as governor of the nation’s fourth-most-populous state.
