NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Expected in Crown Heights Sukkah Tonight

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is expected to visit Crown Heights tonight, Tuesday, September 29th, as part of a Sukkos visit to the sukkah of Mrs. Devorah Halberstam.

Halberstam, whose son Ari was killed in the 1994 terrorist attack on the Brooklyn Bridge, has for years hosted elected officials, law-enforcement leaders and community figures in her sukkah during Sukkos.

The mayor’s expected visit comes as city officials have maintained an increased focus on engagement with New York’s Jewish communities. The Mayor’s Office to Combat Antisemitism says it has held listening sessions with Jewish New Yorkers and recently accompanied Mayor Mamdani on a visit to the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights, where he was hosted by Halberstam.

Community members should be aware that the mayor’s visit is expected to bring an accompanying security presence and possible activity around the location of the sukkah.

The anticipated visit follows Monday night’s visit by Nassau County Executive and Republican gubernatorial nominee Bruce Blakeman, who visited a Crown Heights sukkah and joined the dancing at the communal Simchas Beis Hashoeva.

Mayor Mamdani’s visit tonight is expected to take place at approximately 8:00pm.
