Breaking: Suspected Stabber Has Been Arrested

A source within the 71st Precinct has notified CrownHeights.info that the man who allegedly stabbed Leiby Brickman in Crown Heights exactly one month ago has been arrested and taken into custody. The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Keny Rochelin.

Keny Rochelin, a 26-year-old man whose last known address is in the Upper West Side of Manhattan but is considered homeless, was arrested in the connection with two stabbings last night – one in Prospect Park and another near the park on Parkside Avenue.

Police say that they received two 911 calls Wednesday night at around 10:30pm, one about a man stabbed while jogging in Prospect Park on Lincoln Road and East Drive, and another near the park on Parkside and Ocean avenues.

The first victim, a 30-year-old man, was accosted by a man who produced a knife and stabbed him in the hand. Police believe the wound was a defensive wound. The suspect then fled without taking anything from the victim.

A second victim, a 42-year-old man, was accosted by a man police believe to be the same person, who demanded his wallet, stabbed the victim in the stomach and fled.

Both victims were transported to area hospitals, and their wounds are not considered life threatening.

Meanwhile, officers from the 70th Precinct stopped a suspect in connection with the two stabbings, and after being identified by the victims, he was arrested and charged with Robbery, Assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Police sources say that while being interrogated, Rochelin admitted to his role in the stabbing of 25-year-old Yehuda Leib Brikman on Empire Boulevard one month ago.

He was charged with Attempted Murder and Aggravated Harassment as a Hate Crime.

Police further told CrownHeights.info that Rochelin has six prior arrests dating back to 2015.

Family of the victim as well as the police have confirmed that the meeting scheduled for tonight in the Jewish Children’s Museum is still on for 7:00pm, where an update on the case will be given. “Please make sure to attend and show that this matters to us,” a family member said.

At an unrelated press conference Thursday afternoon, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce praised the officers on apprehending the suspect.

“We had two slashings in and around Prospect Park. We made an arrest on that individual, 26-year-old Kenny Rochelin. He stabbed someone out of the blue, with no provocation, no argument, in Prospect Park, then robbed someone on Ocean Avenue [then] took his wallet and stabbed that person in the stomach,” Boyce said.

“We brought him to the precinct and found out we linked him for the stabbing of the Hasidic male on Empire Boulevard on February 10,” Boyce added.

“We did not have him on our radar prior to this. You look at his criminal history, it is really not much. He lives at a shelter on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. When we digged deeper, we realized his sister lived nearby the stabbing [that took place] on Empire Boulevard. So, it is all coming together right now. I have a lot of forensics on the case to go forward with,” Boyce said.

This is a developing story. It will be updated with more information as it becomes available.

hell be out in no time as hell say he had a bad childhood or he has “mental illness” (though only to stab Jews not Afro-Americans). especially this DA Thompson cares less for our community, remember he filed no charges against the guy who ran over the rav three times, not even manslaughter.

  • Thank you 70th not 71

So apperantly it was not the 71… They just got lucky that the nearby precinct is run well

  • Thank Gd they got him

But only after other victims had to suffer. This guy was arrested 6 times in the past year and the police couldn’t identify him – with a candid photo of his face?? They only found him in connection with another crime and made the link by his own admission? That’s pretty scary.

In less than 30 days, the city council will vote on the Mayor’s Zoning for Quality and Affordability which will remove restrictions on mental health and homeless facilities in oversaturated community districts. ( Zoning Resolution 22-42)

In less than 30 days, the city council will also vote on the Mayor’s Mandatory Inclusionary Housing which will change the definition of supportive housing to be “non-profit with sleeping accommodations”. The reason for the change, in my personal opinion, is to remove restrictions on mental health and homeless facilities by removing the residential bed to population analysis in case the prior Zoning for Quality and Affordability does not pass.

This removal of restrictions will allow supportive housing facilities to oversaturate lower income neighborhoods like East Flatbush where Jews are starting to move into,

Supportive housing is financed by public funds from taxpayers.

If you don’t like what’s going on, start voting in the democratic primary, start going to the Community Board monthly meetings, and demand timely elections instead of photo-ops from the CHJCC.

What about the 10 year old case of Efrayim Klein, nothing ever happened, he was never caught, it’s 10 years later, y has nothing been done. The police just let the case go. It’s very sad, G-d forbid it could have been any1z parent.

Look they caught him the same day that he stabbed. Something the 71st wouldn’t do (especially if the victim happened to be Jewish)

  • Not Impressed

They didn’t find him due to their efforts bu by sheer coincidence (Hashgocho Protis).

This will be downplayed as a psychotic episode, rather than a hate crime, as yesterday’s victims were not (visibly at least) Jewish.

  • Perturbed

Didn’t the police say they arrested the stabber right after the stabbing on Leibi happened??

if it was him, then find out if he was maybe paid by someone to do it. Just a thought, considering today’s “climate”.
Grateful that he was caught and hope justice is served with emes and gevurah.

WOW !!! A MODEL CITIZEN-ONLY SIX PRIOR ARRESTS. MAYBE ALL THESE EVENTS OCCURRING ARE A RUSE BY DISGRUNTLED ETHNICS TO LOWER THE PRICE OF HOUSES IN OUR AREA. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED IN THE MID-SIXTIES, A PROLIFERATION OF VIOLENT CRIMES SCARED MANY HOMEOWNERS IN THE AREA AND THEY SOLD THIER HOUSES FOR ANYTHING THEY COULD GET.
