Free Coats Being Given to Crown Heights Children

CROWN HEIGHTS — After noticing quite a few children walking to school without proper winter coats, a group of Crown Heights businessmen teamed up and purchased hundreds of children’s winter coats in various sizes and styles to be distributed absolutely free of charge.

Local businessman and father Shaya Gordon recalled a story told to the family while sitting Shiva for his father Reb Schabse Gordon OBM. On a cold winter day Schabse approached a young father and said, “I see your son doesn’t have a coat. Go buy one.” He handed him money and walked away. This story remained with Shaya.

Coats will be given through the local schools via a confidential hotline. If you or someone you know needs a coat for their child please call (718) 408-1484 and leave a message with the size and gender and a call back number (no name please).

Someone will contact you with a convenient pick up location of your choice (your child’s school, a local store, etc.) Please call the hotline ASAP as supplies are limited.

Im proud to be a member of such a WONDERFUL and caring community. May these business men be blessed for all that they do for their fellow Jews.

    WE WANT MOCHAIACH NOW!!!

  • Pride comes before a fall

When my son told me his classmate didn’t have a coat I called the principal & told him to go get the boy a good coat that he could also wear on Shabbos & let me know the cost. My son suspected but I never let him know. It’s nice to know this is being done on a large scale but very sad that there are so many children in this situation. I suggest class teachers pay attention to how children are dressed (including badly fitting shoes, tights with holes, threadbare sweaters) & which kids have huge school breakfasts & lunches. Then our local agencies can kick in to help.

It’s up to us to be watchful of our neighbors. Pride is good but not when children suffer.

I remember one of my students not having a pair of shoes at Lubavitcher Yeshiva. I mentioned it to Sima Simpson who immediately purchased shoes for the boy. I don’t live in CH anymore but I always remember this story!

HEARTWARMING TO SEE SUCH ACTS OF CHESSED ESPECIALLY FROM THE YOUNGER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY.. PLEASE LETS HAVE MORE OF THIS KIND OF PUBLICITY.
MUCH BETTER THEN TO HEAR OF THE SQUABLING THat has been going on between rabonim and leaders of the community.

ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO A TEACHER OF OHR MENACHEM YESHIVA NOTICED ONE OF HIS STUDENTS COMING TO SCHOOL ON A POURING RAIN DAY WITH TORN SHOES AND OBVIOUSLY SOPPING WET SOCKS. AS SOON AS THE RECESS BELL RANG THE TEACHER TOOK THE BOY TO PAYLESS AND BOUGHT HIM A PAIR OF SHOES AND SOCKS. AND REFUSES TO HAVE HIS NAME MENTIONED.
    MI KE AMCHO YISROEL!!!!!

Wow! I am so moved by the caring that motivates one to give in such a large scale. May Hashem bless you with fulfillment of all your needs, with much chassidishe nachas from your family, and with the ability to keep bringing joy to others.
