Box of 10 Pairs of Lost Tefillin Found in 770

If you lost tefillin in or around 770 over the last few decades, one of these might be yours.

About 10 pairs of lost tefillin surfaced yesterday in 770. The box was hidden away in one of 770’s many storage areas. Over the years due to frequent events there needed to be fast “cleanups.” Instantly tefillin, books, coats and hats were moved. It has become a ritual over the years to “find your hat”, coat or tefillin after such moves. Most often the item turned up, but sometimes things disappeared.

This would most often happen whenever there was a sicha, farbrengen, during shabbos before farbrengens or before Shabbos or Yom Tov. Books and tefillin were very quickly moved, some into storage areas to sit for many years.

This particular box of tefillin surfaced during a recent cleanup of one of these areas. It had obviously been sitting for many years, from a time when 3 by 3 tefillin were more commonly seen around 770.

Some of the Tefillin have names on them, most do not. The tefillin are all of good quality. They are Rashi and Rabbeinu Tam. Some are 4 by 4, most are 3.5 by 3.5. Almost all are ‘gassos.’ The box is sitting on the front table in 770. Go there to claim your tefillin. If you don’t see the box ask one of the gabboyim.

One of the Tefillin has the name Yitzchok Boganum on it. Another, the name “Levin”. If you know either of these people please ask them to call (718) 213-2956 to claim their tefillin.

would it be possible to show pictures of all of the bags? I lost a pair, with bag embroidered with intitials “gimmel” “Yud” “Phe” about 12 years. I am out of town now, so can’t go check out for myself.

    thanks.
