KSCVK to Honor Hassidic NYPD Cop

NYPD Officer Shimon Strauss (L) will be honored at KSCVK’s 1st Annual Dinner

Shimon Strauss plays a distinct unique role in New York City. On one hand, he is a devout Chabad Chasid deeply devoted to the teachings of the Torah and the values of Jewish community. On the other hand, he’s just another NYPD officer set out to protect and serve the city of New York.

While standing in both of these seemingly opposing worlds, he has managed to join them together in line with the values and mission statement set out by his leader, the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In his involvement in both worlds, he epitomizes the role of the modern Jew, to be both involved in the world, while still very much remaining who he is without compromise.

Keren Simchas Chosson V’Kallah is proud to present Mr. Strauss with the Chesed Award for his tremendous efforts and his continued work in the Jewish community and the city of New York.

The KSCVK dinner will be on October 20th at Oholei Torah. Honoring Shimon Strauss, Chaim Moshe Jacobson, Rabbi Shmuel Lew and KSCVK founder Devorah Benjamin.

  • MONEY YOUR TRUTH!

“While standing in both of these seemingly opposing worlds…”

No. Being a religious Jew and being a law officer are NOT seemingly apposing worlds. This is a purely racist and eronious steriotyping.

“…to be both involved in the world, while still very much remaining who he is without compromise.”

Well, he did compromise his beard…

People! Leshaim shamayim – please go to college and get a normal job, so you can live like a yid!

Seems like I once knew a Strauss, police officer in Toronto, Canada… The elder father who has since passed away, the 2 sons and maybe this is the grandson. I hope Strauss is reading crownheights.info and can answer back if he indeed is part of this Toronto family that used to be my neighbour on BAYCREST AVENUE, TORONTO, near Baycrest Public School.

chavie & shimon – may you both continue to do the work of the rebbe and be give nachos to your mom. you’re father is smiling on your achievments as you carry on in his footsteps as well as creating your own

  • Don-t understand

A Chossid un a bord? say a frum guy with a lubavitch bakc ground, no beard not Chabad.

  • Thank you!

I love it! Keep up the great work. What an honorable way to make a living. To serve and protect. Physically and spiritually. Thank you for your service.

The Rebbe once stated that his chassidim are not necessarily the guys with the black hats, coats & beards.
The gentelmean that bought 770 from the Rebbe so that the mikvah could be fixed & upgraded years ago did not have a beard & Rebbe considered him his chosid.

A “devout Chabad Chasid” does not shave his beard. There are no exceptions. A person who shaves can be a fainer yid, a kiddush hashem, a paragon of erlichkeit, but he cannot be “a devout chosid”. Not shaving is part of the definition of a chossid.

  • Response to 8.

The gentleman who bought 770 was a goy. His having a beard or not is totally irrelevant to the fact that a devout chossid has a beard.

to #3- you think you dont need to go to college to be a police officer?? Think again. Kol Hakavod to him- it is not an easy job. Just because he doesnt own a startup business in his basement doesn’t make his professional “un” lubavitch

  • to number 12

To number 12 have you ever looked up the requirements for becoming a police officer? You need 60 college credits or proof of army services.

To all the obove that have a problem about Shimons beard
What about Sam Melamud who is totally clean shaven. He was elected as a Vaad Hakohol member and Zaki Tamir who trims his beard is a Vaad Hakohol member. Where is the outcry? But when someone is working to protect you and his beard is not shaved off all the way that is a problem? What about all the bochurim in our yeshivas that are playing with there beards, and shluchim? Lets get our priorities straight.
