Eight Years to the Murder of Efraim Klein, HYD

Today, the 30th of Shvat, marks 8 years to the cold-blooded murder of Efraim Klein, HYD, a well known and loved member of the Crown Heights Jewish community. The investigation into his murder has long since gone cold.

It was a cold and blustery Thursday night, at around 2:00am, when shots rang out in the vicinity of Crown Street and Schenectady Avenue. The shots awoke several area residents, who came out of their homes to learn that a fellow Lubavitcher had been shot.

A number of bystanders, along with Hatzalah and Shomrim, pulled Efraim from the mangled wreckage of his car, which had caught fire, and attempted to treat his wounds. He passed away at Kings County Hospital a short while later.

Thousands of grieving community members attended his funeral outside 770, the Lubavitch World Headquarters.

A press conference was held in the lobby of the Jewish Children’s Museum, where politicians gave condolences to the family, and promised to locate the murderer and bring him to justice. Local business got together and raised reward money in an attempt to obtain information on the incident.

One year after the homicide, the police distributed reward flyers in an attempt to revive the investigation with new leads.

There have been no new updates since.

  • NYPD does not care

in small towns around america when there is a murder, the local PD get together and investigate and will not stop until they find the murderers, it becomes personal.

here in NY (with crime so high) we have people who do it as a job, 9-5 they dont care about the family or the victim. they just want to get paid.

    sad sad sad

  • Doughnuts

If the Brooklyn cops busy chasing a man with doughnut and mace Why would you expect them to do something real like finding a murderer of a Friday night burglar ?

  • M L

the NYPD only does what it easy for them they are looking for easy targets, even if you give them a picture or a video of a burglar, it would still be easier to arrest people from our community for stupid reasons.

  • What Happened

I really don’t get what happened with Efraim Klein, he went 2 move his car & there was shooting going on but no 1 shot him directly it was an indirect bullet or something ? does any1 really know the real story what happened. & its 8 yrs later & they still haven’t found any1. 1st of all it is illegal 2 shoot so no matter what even if they weren’t trying 2 kill him its dangerous. But as far as i understand no 1 was out 2 get him specifically.

  • Tosfos

The fact the an arrest hasnt been made in 8 yrs means that the man that was shootin that nite is still roaming the streets of Bklyn or wherever he is, & how could we let 8 yrs go by & not 1 arrest. If u listen 2 wat they said on the video of the funeral they said they would find the murderer & bring him 2 justice, well wat has been done in 8 yrs plz tell me ? The Monster is still on the streets. Even Yankel Rosenbaum HY”D that Sick Jerk got off free he is now a free man & lives freely. No 1 gives a darn. May they both (Yankel & Efraim’s murderers) both drop dead & go where they belong.

  • Don't you know, this is New York

Many years ago (1980’s), A lubavitcher went to the 71st precinct to inquire about a friend of his who was shot. The police clerk rudely asked,”What’s it your business?!” He said,”He’s a friend of mine, I’m concerned, and I have a right to know.”

The clerk looked up the information. Then he said,”Oh yeh, just another shooting.”

Now, in a small town, even a minor traffic accident is big news.
