CH Bicyclists Gather to Plan Cross Country Trip

Crown Heights [CHI] — A few days after Chanukah, a group of about 40-50 avid bicyclists gathered at the CH Cycles bike shop on Empire Blvd. for a gathering of members of ‘Team Aleph,’ a Bicycle club based in Crown Heights.

According to Ari Herrmann, the team’s founder, the gathering had three purposes: 1. A farbrengen to re-dedicate Yoske Strassburg’s newly renovated bicycle store. 2. A get-together for Aleph Team members to catch up with each other. 3. A planning session for the planned ‘Ride Across America’ which will take place this summer.

The ‘Ride Across America’ initiative is a partnership between Team Aleph and Friendship Circle. The plan is to ride from Los Angles to New York City – a trip of about 3,500 miles – in about 7 weeks over the summer. Between 10-20 men are expected to make the full trip across the continent, and an additional 50 or so “day riders” are expected to accompany them on any given leg of the journey.

The riders will ‘hit’ Friendship Circle centers along the way in many different cities, whose member will come out to cheer them on as they pass through their city. The group is hoping for sponsors who will donate money by the mile, rider or leg of the journey. All proceeds of the money raised will go to benefit the Friendship Circle.

About Team Aleph

Team Aleph is a group anyone can join that gets together for biking trips. The team has grown from just 20 members at its humble beginnings one year ago to over 100 members today, and shows no sign of slowing down. Members are mostly from Crown Heights, but there are quite a few members from Flatbush, Connecticut, Monsey and elsewhere in the Tri-State area as well.

Team Aleph came about in the fall of 2010 when Ari Hermann arranged a race in Prospect Park with Yoske Strassburg of CH Cycles bike shop. [Scroll down to see a video of the race.]

Since then, Team Aleph has had numerous biking events, including two weekly bike rides: one every Motzei Shabbos going up to the George Washington Bridge in Manhattan, and the other every Sunday going over the GWB all the way to Nyack, NJ.
