Vigilant Boy Finds Own Stolen Bicycle

Yesterday at about 6:30pm, Shomrim received a call from the mother of a 9-year-old boy who spotted his bicycle, which had been stolen several days before, being ridden by an African-American child about his age in Lefferts Park.

Shomrim volunteers arrived at the scene and followed the young boy from a distance as he rode out of the park. A passing NYPD vehicle was flagged down, and the officers stopped the boy.

The child did not have a coherent explanation as to where the bike came from. The police located the boy’s parents, who arrived immediately and confirmed that the bicycle did not belong to their child.

They apologized profusely for the actions of their son and admonished him to never touch something that doesn’t belong to him again.

The boy was released to his parents, and the bicycle was returned to its happy owner.

After being thanked for their assistance, the officers urged Shomrim to encourage members of the community to register their bikes at the 71st precinct, as it greatly assists in the swift identification and return of stolen bicycles.

The real story is that my son was in the park and saw his friend’s bike that were stolen and he could not relax until he called his friend’s mom ….. I wish everyone would care of others like my son

to #3 – kudos to your son for being a good friend.

to #1 – go to the 71st precinct or the one in your neighborhood and just as to register your bike –

or maybe our CHJCC should have a bike registration day again in front of the office

to #2 – cause the police probably just didnt want to do the paperwork

  • responsible parents!

Unusual round here, all parents seem to think every kid, Jewish or not, is always a saint. Here are parents who take things seriously. This kid might actually turn out to be a decent citizen.

Parents are not decent, they knew he stole it since he had it for a few days

Must you point out that the child was African American? It’s not relevant to the story and sounds plain racist.

Uh, why isn’t it relevant? Isn’t it important to know just who is committing crime in Crown Heights?
