Ooops! Ten Yad Calls Crown Heights Shabbos Morning

In what would probably be chalked up as a moisad’s biggest gaffe ever, thousands received a call Shabbos Morning with the voice of one of their volunteers encouraging them to attend the Ten Yad auction and support them.

Landline telephones in homes as well as cellular phones all began ringing at approximately 10:30am, but none were answered. Those who had answering machines suddenly heard this quizzical message [listen below].

So was it just an innocent mistake?

Ten Yad says it was. A response appeared immediately after Shabbos on their Facebook Page:

“Were you surprised by our call today? So were we… And we’re terribly sorry about it! There was a scheduling glitch in the automated system and the company contacted us tonight to apologize. (Needless to say, the message was recorded before shabbos and should not have sent itself today)”

But some mused that perhaps there was something more to it. “Was it a savvy ploy to generate some chatter and word of mouth advertising? I don’t know” one supporter told our correspondent as she walked through the doors of the Razag Ballroom on East New York Avenue Sunday night, “Ten Yad is an important organization and I will still support it.”

One source told CrownHeights.info that extra emphasis was placed on making sure that this exact mistake would not happen, nevertheless it did.

is just too negative. I cannot imagine that this would be, and its a very negative far stretched thought.

  • old timer

was just the Shabbos Checker, making sure we really keep shabbos….
lighten up, folks, it was just a mistake!

  • dont mean this in a bad way but

ten yad wants everyone to support them while they will only support you if you are from CH and your wedding is in CH and you will be living in CH!

  • RESIDENT CROWHN HEIGHTS

WHAT A CHUTZPA, ON SHABBOS VERY SAD AND DISTURBIN OUR SHABBOS SPIRIT, DO NOT MAKE ERROR LIKE THAT IN OUR KEHILA NOT ALLOWED!!! CONSULT THE ROBBONIM MUTAR OR NOT

  • Delegation

That’s what happens when we delegate calls and emails to outside companies. In the past I’ve gotten emails from a Chabad House that arrived on Shabbos, and the Chabad House’s response was that “constant contact” had sent out the emails on Shabbos without their knowledge.

Have you stooped so low that you would try to stir up gossip suggesting that such a pure, beautiful organization would violate Shabbos to make a few extra dollars in tzeddakah?

THIS IS A NEW LOW… YOU SHOULD DO TESHUVAH.

I dare you to print this. You print everything else… garbage and loshan hara and sinas chinom included… so why when it comes to yourself you would censor such a comment?

  • Just Stop!

this is crazy!! of course it was a mistake, and everyone should stop making a big deal out of it- EVERYONE makes mistakes- its very sad that u have to speak negatively about ur own brothers. im shocked!

  • I-m shocked

    att: crown heights info
why did you even post this? do you post every mistake that every organization does? did you have in mind that anything positive would generate from someone reading this? it’s just pure negativity!

  • To mr/mrs Dumb 11. comment

Your comment is so full of your own hate I had to reread the article to see the negativity you claim thats in it. had you not opened your mouth no one would even notice.

Then you play a stupid game to try ensuring your dumb comment gets posted. you got posted not bc you cursed out chinfo, but rather bc you have made a fool out of yourself and a very good organization called ten yad.

  • They must be very imbarresed!

Why are they posting it when its something bad?Somethings are imbarresing!

  • Not impressed

    To #17,
They are probably not as you are when you spelled embarrassed wrong. Maybe crownheights.info should now write an article about this.

    I didn’t get this apology:

Were you surprised by our call today? So were we… And we’re terribly sorry about it! There was a scheduling glitch in the automated system and the company contacted us tonight to apologize. (Needless to say, the message was recorded before shabbos and should not have sent itself today)”

I got something to the effect of “we apologize for this morning’s call.” Long pause. Then the spiel. Not much of an apology.
