Crown Heights will not be a Bike Share ‘Black Hole’

This week the city launched its Bike Share program amid praise and criticism. One story highlighted the ‘black hole’ where not a single bike rack was installed in the Hassidic section of Williamsburg, Crown Heights though, will not be the same.

CrownHeights.info obtained plans confirming the installation of 8 CitiBike racks at a number or subway stations in the neighborhood.

The following are the locations:

  • Eastern Parkway, by Franklin Ave Subway Station
  • 334 Eastern Parkway
  • Opposite 334 Eastern Parkway, on the Median
  • 792 Eastern Parkway, on the Median by Kingston Ave Subway Station
  • 1040 Eastern Parkway, by Utica Ave Subway Station at Schenectady Ave
  • 2 x 1102 Eastern Parkway, by Utica Ave Subway Station at Utica Ave
  • 1195 President Street, by President St Subway Station

The privately funded Citi Bike bike-share program launched with 6,000 bikes at 330 docking stations in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn. Officials hope to expand to 10,000 bikes and 600 docking stations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.

Thousands have signed up to participate in the program, which allows riders to take bikes out for up to 30 or 45 minutes at a time, from locations throughout the city. An annual membership costs $95 and a day pass will cost $9.95.

  • Won't last

Our wonderful neighbors will steal them, destroy them, or lose them. :)

    • 792 Easter Parkway

792 Easter Parkway is actually the address of the JCM so it will probably be across Kingston from 770, which though not ideal, is also not that bad.

  • Looking forward!

This is Awesome! I can’t wait until we get in on the Bike share program. Of course there are always going to be complainers but you won’t find me among them. Baruch Hashem!

  • Dangerous

This past year around 150 bike riders were killed in the City.
Around 150 pedestrians were also killed.

One difference – at any given time there are about 1 million people walking around and there are only about 1 thousand bikers.

Riding a bike on the road is a bigger risk (to the rider) than a drunk driver who is texting and speeding.

    • To#5

Come on. A drunk driver who is texting and speeding is a much bigger risk.

Hay why are we different than williamsburg where the community leaders were able to stop it, why do we have to have it it will cause a lot of not tznius people to come right across 770 and to be in our neighborhood???????

    Wheres community council

  • Shimon

Where are our community leaders who get paid to be on the front lines? and what are they doing about this like Williamsburg where they got their act together to stop it?

Wheres the people to help us????

  • Shlomo

By the way they come in cost of 4 parking spot as the station for the bikes are put in the street so all this is part of blumbergs master plan if killing parking spots, and this will greatly affect our community where most of us have cars and don’t use bikes as the goyim do?

So whats this worth for us 30 less valuable parking spots in Crown Heights, that’s just what we need on a cold winter February night looking for parking for 45 minutes

Come on every body wake up and smell the coffee

This nanny, soup mayor Michael Bloomberg, when he wants to implement something, there’s no law.

This will just attract more young goyim from Manhattan into Crown Heights and will end up taking all our apartments and raising the rents on us, because we will have to compete with these goyim in housing prices.

Let alone buying a house which is already ridiculous in Crown Heights because of the new competition against investors and hipsters,

This will just make things worse for that matter,

Let’s think about the future and about the future of Crown Heights for our children as a place to live do we want the prices to be like park slope in 5 years time???

Well NO we don’t and we will have to give up the Rebbes Community for cheap to some goyim???????

Let’s save our selves and be smart about this???

    Call Community council today

And lets stop this like they did in Williamsburg,

well WillyB incredibly chassidish. Crown heights unfortunately isnt anymore, and most of the ppl here are shkotzim mamesh or like minded yidden. very few people in CH care enough about chassidus shmiras eynayim and tznius to care about bikes.

there is no williamsburg.info for the chassidim there! that should say something.

  • To#10&11

Those locations are in Crown Heights. We are not the only ones living in Crown Heights and most racks will be stationed by subway stations.

    To#10
Talk about the lack of tznuis in our own backyard first. And when did it become acceptable to wear red.

Mayor Bloomberg should realize that NYC is not London or Paris.

  • To #15

There maybe a lack of tznius however THIS is definitly is not the solution!!!

  • to#16

What are you talking about? Solution to what?
    Traffic in NYC or Tznius?

I just don’t see the point of this program in NYC which is so congested.

Bloomberg just doesn’t care since this is his last term.

  • Lazer

And then comes in the bike lanes, that just destroys our neighborhood and puts traffic much slower in cown heights worse than it currently is

  • Wow

You’re all being ridiculous. Biking is an efficient mode of transportation and if you feel it is dangerous you don’t have to use them. For many people it will obviate the need for gas and incorporate exercise into our daily lives – something we can all do with. Embrace the progress, people. Get with the program
