President St. Loses Four Parking Spots

Motorists who wish to park on President Street will find it much more difficult. Beginning this morning two new ‘No Parking Anytime’ signs have been posted in front of FREE, effectively eliminating four parking spots.

The new signs were installed covering the curb of Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe at 1383 President Street. They appear to have been installed sometime Wednesday morning. CrownHeights.info received a dozen emails alerting us of the development, some complaining while others were concerned that motorists may park there – unaware of the regulation change – which carries a $115 fine.

Throughout New York City the area in front of houses of worship are often designated as no standing or parking zones.

A call to Brooklyn’s Community Board 9, who process the requests to make such changes, were unaware of the new signs and had no information about a request to install the new signs being made.

On the Department of Transportation website the new signs do not appear in their database.

  • montgomery is the worse

Montggomery between albany and troy is the worse parking in all of CH

First the houses were built that you cant even fit a car in between 2 houses, 90% of the residents took their garage and turned it into a bedroom, so they all park on the street or in the driveway which takes half of the sidewalk.

PS if everyone in CH would park in their garage/driveway CH would have plenty of parking

  • Chutzpah

Why (and who) are they doing this, everybody loses out, it’s hard enough as it is to park legitimately on the block, and what about when alternate side parking is on the FREE side!!

  • Why was this done?

When I looked this morning it seems like the lost space could accommodate 5 cars!

Granted, this block doesn’t suffer from lack of parking, as the properties are wide and mostly have driveways. However, often people from neighboring blocks will park there, shoppers shopping on Kingston Avenue. Lastly the illegal hourly car rental services use this block to park many of their cars, if they have less parking here, they’ll park on blocks where parking is not as readily available.

What I really don’t understand is why was this necessary? Who benefits from this?

  • To #1 - Montgomery St.

The reason Montgomery bet. Albany & Troy is so difficult is because of the buildings (in addition to the inability to park between driveways).

  • fake

The sign is FAKE. If you look at all other nyc No Parking signs, they do not look like this!!!

    • Anonymous

Maybe possibly NYC started installing signs with a new design? No that’s crazy, you’re probably right. Must be a fake because you choose to live under a rock.

  • #4 is correct

No signs are done with some words in CAPS and some not.
Also, most schools/shuls no parking signs specify hours when parking is off limits.
The ? is who is the idiot who did this?

  • larry

they should have parking on oneside and do it like president between utica and rochester has.

  • 7 is right!

Those signs do not look like typical no parking signs. Some clever sneak has earned free parking

  • Boro Park is much worse.

Crown Heighters, don’t complain, Boro Park is the pits. The skinny geseles usually have huge yellow school buses parked on them… I suggest instead of parking on President, try parking more east, like Rochester… – only kiddin!’ – I actually think E New York has availability… So big deal, you’ll walk a few blocks to go to your home.

  • Parking

Montgomery bet. Bklyn and Ny is worst. The police department park their personal cars on the block. Also the alley ways are so broken that you get a flat going to the garage so many people do not use them. Some people on the block do not want to participate in paying to have it fixed so it is not fixed

  • Shmuel Munkes

Who is brave enough to remove these signs TONIGHT.
Think about how much yidisheh time and gelt you will be saving!

…And the amount of time you’ll spend in jail…
There are proper ways to go about this.

  • To # 2

WHY DON’T YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT THE NO PARKING SIGN ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET-IN FRONT OF THE S. MARK DAY SCHOOL. THEY TAKE AWAY MUCH MORE SPOTS!

I THINK AS # 4 POINTS OUT ITS THE CAR RENTAL THAT TAKES UP MAJORITY OF THE AVAILABLE SPOTS. THAT’S WHAT I FIND AS THE REAL CHUTZPAH!

REMEMBER, AS THE ARTICLE POINTS OUT: “Throughout New York City the area in front of houses of worship are often designated as no standing or parking zones.”

  • to #1

You obviously forgot that there are approximately between 50 and 100 couples in every apt building that have no parking space. Most garages in CH are full.

This is called a sin tax. The city makes sure that there is not enough parking forcing ppl to park illegally, and then charging parking tix.

    Just like sodom and gemorah.

  • To #13-Feh!!

Why are you writing nasty loshon hora and even putting up people’s names

  • F.R.E.E. is not a shul during the week

on weekdays they only doven shachris there once from 6am-7am
They don’t doven mincha and mariv daily

During the Week FREE is just an office building where they do the work for FREE’s projects

It’s only on Shabbos & yom tov when they have crowded busy minyanim

  • to #7 #8 #9 #10 #12

it looks like you’re right, this is a false sign.
every sign is put up by the DOT (department of transportation) and on the sign it says “department of transportation”, if you’ll take a look on the sign these words are missing…

  • Chutzpah

#9 you don’t have to SHOUT, that is the sign of an idiot!

Do you know how much effort has been made to challenge the school parking at end of the block (extremely difficult due to years of stonewalling – for obvious reason.

The Bitton and Aron’s Rent-a-car issue is also actively on the radar and is and will be dealt with.

Just because there is reduced parking elsewhere on the block, doesn’t mean that a new narcissistic interference should be condoned and accepted.

  • SIgns are legit

The signs are real. The DOT recently adopted a new simpler design that involves a revised layout and a new font.
