Suspicious Package in front of 770

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A suspicious package had Police busy for nearly a half hour in front of 770. At around 10:45pm a foot post police officer noticed a blue canvass bag sitting near the steps for quite some time. The officer notified his Sergeant who in turn alerted the Bomb Squad and Shomrim.

Shomrim members responded and helped seal off and secure the area in preparation for the bomb squad. While waiting a man casually crossed the yellow police tape and attempted to retrieve the bag claiming it was his.

Officers stopped him and after questioning him they allowed him to retrieve the bag.

CrownHeights.info has learned that there is an elevated threat level for synagogues until September 11th, though no specific threat has been issued every precaution is never the less being taken.

If you see something say something, never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7

were going to have a lot of that in the next two month, they should put up signs (although it won’t help, they should at least try) in Hebrew warning people not to leave bag unattended.

who checks out the hundreds of bags and suitcases that are usually found during Tishrei in the front hallway of 770? If someone had a device in a bag wouldn’t he leave it there mixed into dozens of other bags lying around rather than bringing it to 770 as a lone bag.

actually police were having a hard time containing the crowd around 770 and they knew that shomrim has members who can speak hebrew and they can assist with containing the crowd. good for the police knowing who to call in order to make their jobs easier and call on the right proffesionals to do it!
