Driver Arrested in Crown Heights Hit-and-Run That Left Community Member Injured
by CrownHeights.info
A driver has been arrested following a hit-and-run in Crown Heights that left a prominent member of the Lubavitch community injured, thanks to a coordinated effort between Crown Heights Shomrim and the NYPD’s 71st Precinct.
The incident, caught on surveillance video, took place on the night of Friday, October 16th, at approximately 10:20pm, when the victim was struck by a vehicle as he was crossing a street. Rather than stopping to render assistance, the driver fled the scene, leaving the injured victim lying in the middle of the road.
Witnesses immediately contacted Hatzalah, whose volunteers responded and transported the victim to the hospital for medical treatment. Crown Heights Shomrim also responded and began assisting with the investigation.
Working closely with officers from the NYPD’s 71st Precinct, Shomrim was able to provide identifying information that helped police track down the vehicle and identify its driver.
On Friday, October 30th, following the investigation, police arrested the driver.
Crown Heights Shomrim encourages anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or an incident in the neighborhood to report it. Their hotline can be reached at 718-774-3333.
