Young Teen Pulls Gun after Interrupted Robbery

A shopkeeper and his worker interrupted a brazen robbery attempt in front of their store and the would be thief, who appeared to be no older than 14 years- old, pulled a gun on them before fleeing.

The incident occurred Thursday evening at around 7:20pm in front of the Gourmet Butcher grocery store on Troy Avenue near Carroll Street. The storeowner and a worker observed a young black teenager attempting to steal a bike belonging to the worker and they confronted him.

They observed the would-be thief hard at work trying to cut the chain that was securing the bike to a bike stand. The two aided by a third bystander confronted the teen and took away his bolt cutters.

Moments later the teen pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the group and demanded that they return it, which they immediately did and the teen fled.

“At first we stopped the kid from stealing the bike” said the shopkeeper, “he couldn’t have been older than 14-years-old, so we just took away his bolt cutters and he demanded that we give it back and we refused, so he pulled out a gun on us.”

After the incident Shomrim was called, who in turn immediately notified the police and together they searched the area for the suspect, to no avail.

Police were provided with surveillance video of the incident along with cell phone photos they took of teen.

Thats my husband Ofer there confronting the kid with the gun along with the store employee. Ofer would have lunged at him but was afraid the gun would go off on the other guy. Anyway the kid took off and the police came. We don’t know if the kid was caught; hopefully.

such a clear picture of this kid, they are sure to catch him. Especially if we have that thought that he will not get away with it. This kid needs to be locked up for sure, and we all have to demand that the police are on this.

The police here will never even try to find him how hard can it be he lives here!!!!!

  • Black lives with bolt cutters matter!

Why did you offend him by taking away his bolt cutter?

If he would have been a white boy you would have helped him cut the bike free and give him a candy, cause he is black you steal his bolt cutter?!

    We should be ashamed.

it,s perfectly normal for 14 year olds to carry guns.the guy that killed rabbi raksin was also only 14 years old when he commited the crime.what a safe world we live in.

I spoke to someone who just asked the store owner, what are the police doing about it, and he said that nobody seems to be working on it at all.
WE NEED TO FLOOD THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL AND THE 71st PRECINCT WITH CALLS, DEMANDING THAT THEY WORK ON IT.
THEY KNOW HOW TO CATCH CHILD CRIMINALS, THEY HAVE TO DO SOMETHING, AND WE HAVE TO DEMAND THAT THEY DO IT.
