Mailman Robbed; Suspect Chased Down by Shomrim

At around 2:00pm today, Wednesday, a USPS mailman was robbed on Carroll Street between Schenectady and Utica Avenues. The perpetrator waited for the mailman to walk up to a door, then grabbed two Amazon packages from his cart and ran off.

The mailman called out for help, drawing the attention of a Shomrim volunteer who happened to be standing nearby. The volunteer immediately gave chase to the suspect, while calling for backup.

Within seconds several other Shomrim volunteers had responded to the scene, as well as a police officer who also happened to be standing nearby and noticed the commotion.

Together, they successfully apprehended the suspect on Utica Ave. between Carroll and Crown Streets. He was taken into custody, and after he was positively identified by the mailman he was formally arrested and brought down to the 71st Precinct for booking.

The mailman profusely thanked the Shomrim volunteer for “coming out of nowhere” and saving him from “a tremendous amount of paperwork.” The arresting police officers also commended him and his fellow volunteers for their vigilance and dedication to the safety of the community.

Thank you Yanki for ‘coming out of nowhere’ and apprehending the thief. That took courage and resourcefulness, two traits you have in abundance!

This idiot did a federal crime, it’s no joke he’ll be in federal court and jail, good luck.

Yankie didn’t get involved (to save the day) because he’s in Shomrim and wearing a Shomrim Jacket. Yankie is In Shomrim and wearing a Shomrim jacket, because he’s a person who gets involved…takes action…loves to help etc…

May Hashem bless all my fellow Shomrim volunteers with health, wealth and happiness, may you have the will, desire and strength to go out there and do great things until 125!

this issue has been happening for years. glad they caught one.
now I heat that we will be having drop-off centers at local stores. That will save Amazon and other companies alot of money, and will give a few dollars to our local stores too.
they should put a detective on this, to catch more of these people. Then they will eventually stop it.
