Teenagers Captured on Surveillance Vandalizing Shomrim Scooter

CROWN HEIGHTS — Shomrim scooters, a symbol of vigilance seen all around our neighborhood, was recently the target of two vandals. Captured on surveillance video two young teenagers are seen slashing two tires of a parked scooter.

Shomrim maintains a fleet of over ten ‘scooters’ – small three wheeled vehicles used for responding to emergencies and assistance calls. Each vehicle is a assigned to a volunteer and when not in use is usually parked near a volunteers home.

This scooter was parked on Balfour Place and Empire Boulevard on December 23rd, and according to surveillance video two young teenagers approached it at around 1:03pm and slashed both its rear tires, then fled.

Neighbors have identified the two vandals in the video and have turned that information over to Shomrim who in turn are working with police in order to take care of this incident.

Due to the specialty nature of the Shomrim scooters their tires are a special size and extremely expensive to replace. A Shomrim coordinator estimated the damage at over $500.
