Bakery Bandit Takes Bites out of Danishes

A sweet-toothed thief helped himself to bites out of a few danishes in Albany Bakery and ran out of the store; when he was confronted by Shomrim, he helped himself to a bite of one of the volunteers too.

The man was not arrested since the manager said he “could not be bothered” with pressing charges.

The incident began at around 9:00am inside Albany Bakery on Albany Avenue and Union Street. The suspect, a black man described to be in his late 20’s, helped himself to a number of the baked goods on display – taking a bite out of them and returning them to the shelf. He then bolted out the door.

A Shomrim volunteer who was in the bakery was alerted to the crime by the store’s manager, who asked him to “get the suspect.”

The volunteer called for backup over his radio and a number of other volunteers responded. After a short but wild chase, the man was apprehended on Carroll Street off Albany Avenue.

While waiting for police, the suspect became violent, attacking Shomrim volunteers and even biting one of them. When police arrived he was immediately taken into custody.

The manager of the store, who chased the suspect as well, related to police what happened, and after being asked if he wanted to press charges for theft he said that “he could not be bothered and would rather do without the hassle,” since it was “not a big deal.”

Police were then forced to let the man go without any charges.

A short while later, Shomrim received a number of calls that this same individual was bothering women on Kingston Avenue. One caller stated that the man asked her if she was Jewish, and after responding that she is, he began yelling and threatening her.

    The manager asked Shomrim for help and then refused to press Charges!?? That’s crazy!
    Why can’t Shomrim press charges for the bite? (Better get checked for rabies, too)
    Lesson to Mr Manager: maybe it would’ve saved the others if you had pressed charges. Hopefully someone else would’ve done that for you.

      He hsould have thrown out the Dainishes and told Shomrim to forget it and that it is not a big deal BEFORE people chase someone and potentially get hurt.

      What is wrong with you? I am truly ashamed of the manager, asking shomrim to get the guy (are they not busy preparing for shabbos or with other aspects of their lives? Why did he say anything) if he wasn’t going to press charges?
      * It was only 9 am on one of the longest erev shabossim of the year. That leaves plenty of time to call in another manager and then go off to make a report.
      * He bit a Yid (hope we was tested for Rabies a other CV”S diseases! R”L – B”H from the picture it doesn’t look like the skin was broken).
      * Then he went on bothering women on Kingston Avenue.

      Now this poor excuse for a homo sapien is free to bite into, maybe even spit on, the food you and I will buy????
      Rectify the wrong. Go make a police report now, and have him locked up, at least for a brief period. He needs some form of punishment.

      Why on earth call for help if they risk life and limb to catch a perp, and then you say you can’t be bothered?

    If the Shomrim volunteer presses charges for assault, then if this criminal says that the Shomrim volunteer struck him, they will both be arrested I think.

    Hey people, its easy to sit behind your screens and curse out an establishment. The man was disturbed and caused some trouble. If they would of pressed charges he would of been let go a couple hours later. In the meantime the store was busy and they already lost business because of this meshugene so the manager preferred to take care of the waiting customers than to go down to the precinct and fill out a useless report!

      There were a number of workers in the store helping out customers and the manager was the one who told Shomrim “go get him, he just bit out of those dainishes.”

      If he didnt care then he sould not have called Shomrim and should have just thrown them out.

      Instead, he called Shomrim and a bunch of people chased him… and caught him… and one even got hurt… and then this Golem decided “oh i cant be bothered for just $3”

      Think before you endanger people!

      Also, he is just kicking the problem down the hill, becuase this guy is trouble and where do you think he will go next? to another store? or perhaps grab a women indecently on Kingston Ave?

    I hope that member gets that bite checked out by a doctor. and I don’t understand how and why it got confrontational? thanks Albany bake shop for putting there members in harms way for $3 and then not following thru. wont be going to that bakery.
