4 Arrested for Trespassing, Fleeing, Resisting Arrest

CROWN HEIGHTS — A short but wild chase ended with the arrest of four individuals for trespassing and resisting arrest after they were found in an apartment of a building whose inhabitants are mostly Jewish.

The incident occurred inside of 1516 Union Street which is between Albany and Troy Avenues.

According to police sources they had received a call from the owner of the building – or his representative – telling them of a group of four Black males that were inside one of the buildings apartments and that they had no permission to be there.

Upon polices arrival the suspects fled the building and attempted to evade the police. An emergency distress call prompted over 50 police officers to respond to the scene, and all four suspects were apprehended within a block of the building.

According to officers the group appeared to have attempted to ‘squat’ in the apartment, which was just vacated by a friend of theirs who was just put in prison. The group had changed the locks for the apartment. They were charged with Criminal Trespassing, Resisting Arrest among other lesser charges, police were also contemplating adding a burglary charge as well.

No officers were injured in the incident.

1516 Union Street is a relatively small four story building that has 16 residential units and is owned by Dovi Sperlin.

Why was their “friend” let into the building in the first place? There are perfectly legal ways to refuse rentals to criminals.

  • just asking

what i find more intresting, is that fact that he was able to get such a strong and quick response from the police.

i know a lot of landlords that have similar issues and they are told to go to the housing court.

    very curious
