Anti-Semitic Messages Left in Crown Heights Mailbox

Illustration photo

A Crown Heights resident was shocked today when she opened her mailbox, finding inside two slips of paper with horrendous hate messages written on them.

One slip reads: “To Jews, [expletive] you [expletive]s;” the second one reads: “have a nice day [expletive]s, Hitler is coming 2 kill ur families again!!”

At her neighbor’s suggestion, she called the police, and they both waited for them to arrive and file a report.

When the officers arrived, they showed the papers to the police, but they were taken aback by the officers’ unmasked indifference to the crime.

The officers looked at the hate messages and said “what’s wrong with this?”

“What do you mean?” The surprised victim asked the officer.

He responded something to the effect of “all I see is a threat that a dead man is going to come back and kill you… are you scared of a dead man!?

Below are censored images of the written messages; do they constitute a hate crime? You decide.

The policeman is correct; there’s lots of hatred, but where is the crime? This is America, where we have freedom of speech.

It’s possible that putting things in someone’s mailbox that you know they don’t want could be considered trespassing, but that’s a tort, not a crime. There’s probably also some post office regulation, but again no crime.

Absolutely frightening – both the messages and the Police lack of response!

  • Anyone surprised??

If it was in Willy, the cops would be all over the place. But in CH? De rigeur to get away with hate stuff – unless the victim is black of course.

What happened next? Maybe this should go to the media, along with the blatant indifference by our “finest”.

    Get Dov Hikind on it.

call 311 to file a complaint. Also contact CBS880 radio news- and the Mayor! Go down to the precinct and file a formal complaint.

  • FROM 770

WE HAVE THAT IN FRANCE SO NOW IN CROWN HEIGHTS VERY VERY DANGEROUS BUT IS KHAN TZIVA HASHEM ES HABRACHA. SO WILL GREAT…

  • Welcome to Crown Heights reality.

I would say that you are over simplifying the response from the cop. But I can say that the Police are really anti semites themselves.
The other day, a yid was behind the wheel of his van, he was waiting in a bus lane. The cop came over and wrote a ticket while blocking the escape of the yid.

They are bullies, brownshirts, and it is in their nature to hate us.
So if you want to move, you can’t go to france, because they have hate crimes there already.
So unless you can find a country with no goyim, you are out of luck.

  • 40 yr in the hood

Is it not a federal offense to put anything other than United States Mail inside a mail box, let alone hate mail?

  • DeClasse- Intellectual

#12, Yes it is a fefderal crime and it falls under both violation of the postal code and civil rights issues. However, you have with this administration, and espeically Holder, the concept of being politically correct–so if it was reversed and it was done to a black person–you can guess the results
Being a former federal employee abnd now working with privite company that interacts with the government–al I can say is one of those mandated zero tolerance films and the follow ups==oy vey!!!!!!

  • Milhouse

DeClasse- Intellectual, what civil rights “issues” are involved? Of what civil right has anyone been deprived?

  • Milhouse

No, putting material on which postage has not been paid in a letter box is not a crime, it’s an infraction. It carries a maximum fine of $5000. So no crime, therefore no hate crime.
And if it has a 1 cent stamp on it then postage *has* been paid. Also, it’s only illegal if it’s done “with intent to avoid payment of lawful postage thereon”, so if you had some other intent it’s not illegal.

  • Could have at least been sympathetic

I think some cultural sensitivity training is in order for those police who were so callous.
Obviously, they have no clue of the history of the Jewish experience.
And there’s no excuse for their being so clueless, since they work in this precinct.

  • A test

Formal complaints should be lodged against the responding police officers, to our city council representatives, our State legislators, the civilian complaint review board, and to whatever others can be contacted.
Homeowner: You have been given a test. Will you follow through, or just shrug your shoulders at receiving this vicious hate mail?
The 71st has to be given a message that we will not tolerate police who minimize community anti-Semitic acts like this. To just report it on ch.info will accomplish little. Now it’s time to do the responsible thing and make your voice heard.

#10 Most “goyim” would find these hateful letters deeply offensive and reprehensible and would feel nothing but sorrow and sympathy for the poor lady who had the misfortune of finding them in her mailbox. No one deserves to be defined or dehumanized by racism.

  • dallas dude

oh man so many of you are so messed up.

What exactly did the cops do wrong? You know how much garbage they deal with daily??

Why she called NYPD is my question – I mean hello? Obviously a jerk or a kid wanted to unerve you guys. Why fall into nthat stupid trap?

Ignore it – don’t you have better things to do, really?

That said – you should call shomrim (or the other one) and let them be aware of this at least. But if you gonna stress over every rotten event here you might as well move into a cave.

Just my 2 cents ladies and gentleman and you’all have a great shabbat!

  • Start writing letters!

I learnt how to write letters from the parking tickets.

Excuse me! Yes this is America but even though the 1st amendment gives us the freedom of speech there are regulations u can not write say or publish any thing that might rui n someones reputation, slander, or any harsh threats!!! and saying that hitlar will come back again is absolutly not allowed!!!!!

  • Milhouse

#27, you are absolutely wrong. In America, we have FREE SPEECH, and saying that Hitler will come back again is ABSOLUTELY PROTECTED by the first amendment. Any cop that tried to give someone trouble for writing this would be sued and lose his house and his pension. In America it is legal to publish Mein Kampf, and to advocate any opinion one likes, including that the Jews should ch”v be wiped out, or that the blacks should be re-enslaved, or that we should build a cheese factory on the moon. This note does not defame anyone, and it doesn’t make any threat of actual imminent criminal behaviour, so there is no crime, and nothing for the police to act on.

  • Milhouse

Remember, hating people is not a crime. Nor is expressing that hatred.

  • Anon

Milhouse is right as is the cop.
“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,”

Even if the arrow is a writing utensil used to scrawl some dumb message.

    @29 MILHOUSE:

The act committed by persons unknown in the incident described is 2nd Degree Aggravated Harassment, NYS Penal Code Sec. 240.30 sub 1(a):

“A person is guilty of aggravated harassment in the second degree when, with intent to harass, annoy, threaten or alarm another person, he or she…communicates with a person, anonymously or otherwise, by…delivering any other form of written communication, in a manner likely to cause annoyance or alarm…”

Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree is a Class A misdemeanor.

    You stand corrected.

Basically this article will attract three kinds of people. 1) simple browsers, like me, looking to see whats what. 2) Jews; who would logically be concerned about this kind of danger, and 3) sick demented people whose interests take them to any ‘positive’ article that supports their anti-Semitic ambitions. No. 3 is the real concern here Mr.CrownHeightsInfo Writer. For not only have you informed No’s 1 & 2 about the incident, but you are informing all the No. 3’s in www land that a Crown Heights resident is a Jewish woman living somewhere in Crown Heights at 2358. And if they’re not sure which 2358 in Crown Heights, you have supplied a lovely hi-rez photo of the mailbox to help narrow it down. Somethings are even more stupid than illiterate hate-mail.
