Shomrim Assist in Apprehending Shoplifter

A man was arrested after shoplifting from The Marketplace grocery store in Crown Heights. Store employees followed the man around the neighborhood, and when finally calling Shomrim the man was apprehended and swiftly arrested.

The incident occurred at around 5:15pm in the Marketplace on East New York Avenue. Store workers spotted a black man taking items off a shelf and leaving the store without paying.

One worker went out after the suspect and confronted him at the corner of East New York and Brooklyn Avenues. The suspect gave the item back to the worker and fled up Brooklyn.

While the worker followed the man, a store manager called Shomrim, and after some miscommunication a Shomrim Member spotted the man on Kingston Avenue near Union Street and immediately called 911, while continuing to follow the man at a short distance.

When the suspect reached the intersection of Lefferts and Kingston Aves., a store manager confronted him and the suspect attacked him. As Shomrim volunteers sprang into action, a group of police officers arrived and promptly arrested the man.

Thankfully there were no reported injuries.

If a basic food item is taken from a store in UK,often the attending police officers will try to determine if the person is in need and then give a warning and advice as to where there is a food bank to offer free food to him/her.
