Woman Awakes to Find Stranger in Her Bedroom

Last week, a Crown Heights Jewish woman awoke in middle of the night to find a stranger standing in her bedroom. Though terrified, the woman remained calm and demanded that the stranger leave. Thankfully, the man obeyed.

The next morning, the woman, a student residing in the Machon Chana dormitory on President St., dismissed the incident as a bad dream.

The incident occurred sometime in the middle of the night last week Monday. A few days later, on Thursday, the woman mentioned the incident to the school staff, who in turn notified Shomrim.

Upon arriving at the scene, Shomrim volunteers found obvious signs of forced entry on the second floor of the dormitory, and immediately contacted the police.

Officers responded and took a police report, noting the severity of the crime and how it could have turned out far more tragic. A police lieutenant said “had we been called right away, we could have stopped anyone matching the description in the vicinity and very likely apprehended the suspect.”

Once the report was made, a Shomrim volunteer secured the smashed in windows, and advised the school staff to clear away a number of bushes and a tree that shielded the view from the street and provided easy access to the second story window.

The victim was unable to give a clear description of the perpetrator, though she is certain he was white-skinned. No property was taken and the victim was not attacked.

If you have any information pertaining to this crime, please call 911 or Shomrim at 718-774-3333.

Sorry to say but from all the pictures that look like an invitation for someone to come in

  • LIGHTS

I walk on President St at night, and Machon Chana never has exterior lights on.
The lights must be on for Safety reasons

If I woke up with someone in my room, I am raising all types of alarms, not going back to sleep!
They just dont make em like they used to………”bad dream”? ha! it could’ve been a nightmare!

  • Cameras?

A woman’s dorm and no cameras? don’t tell me lack of funds, its unacceptable!

  • declasse' intellectual

B”H she is very lucky; given the history of the neighborhood as a defined unsafe place to reside in-remember the not too long ago break ins on Shabbos in the area–
Better yet what kind of security does the building have, especially a place like that which looks like an open invitation for crime
