Jewish Man Victim of Hate Crime on Erev Shabbos

Crown Heights [CHI] — Late on Friday afternoon just before Shabbos began, a 41-year-old Jewish man was the victim of a hate crime in front of Bnos Menacheam on East New York and Troy Ave., according to a source in the 71st Precinct.

The victim was standing in front of the school when a group of about eight to ten African-American men began shouting anti-Semitic slurs and taunts at him. He turned away from the group and began to walk in the other direction, when one of them threw a rock at him – nearly striking him in the head.

Two of the men continued to follow and harass the victim, and attempted to intimidate him from calling the police.

The incident is being investigated as a Bias Incident by the Hate Crimes Task Force, and has been classified as an attempted assault.

โ€œThe investigators from the Hate Crimes task Force will work closely with the victim in an effort to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of this incident,โ€ said the police source.

  • social decency

Is it usually the same group walking around looking for trouble?I’m sure the school has surveillance cameras in front of their building. There must be something the police can do to identify these kids. Could the city provide some kind of social decency- awareness program over the summer for the aggressive ones. There must be a solution. Maybe an incentive for the good ones to inform on the troublemakers.

  • lets see who ceres

police MUST stand up and crack down. forget trying to be nice and suckup. mabye make a demestration in fron of 71st. lets think like the blacks and get what we need

  • Attempted Assault??

Why is this attempted assault if he was actually hit in the head??

  • Storm the precinct?

Back in the 80’s, A Chasid was shot on Shabbos, I think to death. The Chasidim blamed it on a lax police attitude. What did they do? Hundreds of Chasidim staged a demonstration in front of the 66th precinct. Then they stormed into the precinct and trashed the place.

  • We should go crazy again

What happened to the days when the Africans would say to each other,“Now you leave dem Jews alone! Dem Jews are crazy.”

  • back in the late 70-s - 80-s

    To 8

Back in the good old days, when Meir Kahane’s, HY“D, solution (”violence when necessary“) to anti-semitic acts was popular, there was a marked reduction, though not completely eliminated, of violent crimes against Yidden. This was at a time when such crimes were at an all-time high.
If, Ch”V, it gets out of hand again, then, unless someone has a better idea,I think Kahane’s method has worked in the past.

  • man from la-mancha

according to the US Supreme Court in “Castle Rock v. Gonzales, 545 U.S. 748 (2005), ” YOU AND YOU ALONE MUST PROTECT YOURSELF BY CARRYING A FIREARM. You may find an application on the NYPD website, or if you are so inclined skip that and rely on you 2nd amendment guarantee to caring a firearm. Th latter choice may result in an arrest and possible conviction the Jury refuses its right to JURY NULLIFICATION.

either way its the Jewish community’s fault for not being more involved with taking care of businesses…. this sort of thins would never happen in Williamsburg.

  • Fed Up

This incident is a hate crime. If the Jewish guy had a gun, the hooligans , who taunted him would have probably moved on.
