Shooting in Midst of Montreal Chabad Community

Three men and one woman were arrested early Wednesday morning after a shooting that took place in the heart of the Lubavitch community of Montreal.

The incident started when a fight broke out on Lemieux St at around 9:30 Tuesday evening, and one of the men pulled out a gun and fired it. The bullet struck a parked car.

The shooter fled to an apartment building on Carlton between Lavoie and Legare (just above the Chabad community on upper Carlton) and barricaded himself behind the door. Police set up barriers around the block and went door to door warning residents not to leave their homes until the situation is over.

Shortly after 2:00 in the morning, police received a warrant, and a SWAT team entered the apartment and arrested the men and woman who were all in their twenties. The shooter is known to police.

However, since the shooter speaks French, he was let off with a warning.
