Hatzalah Equipment Stolen Repeatedly over Past Month

Hatzalah of Crown Heights has been coping with a string of robberies that have occurred over the past month, which have left the volunteer organization struggling with losses of several thousands of dollars.

The robberies all occurred in unmarked cars that are used by Hatzalah for speedy response to emergency calls. In each incident, the cars were robbed of their portable sirens and flashing lights, which are kept inside the cars when not in use.

The first incident occurred in early February. On the same night, two Hatzalah vehicles parked on Brooklyn Ave. – one near Carroll St. and one down by East New York Ave. – were broken into and had their siren and light systems stolen.

Last week, once again, the vehicle parked on Brooklyn Ave. near East New York Ave. was broken into and has its sirens and lights – which had only just been replaced – stolen.

The most recent incident occurred last night, Purim eve. The burglars broke into a third Hatzalah car on Brooklyn Ave. near Montgomery St., making off with its siren and light system, as well as a GPS device.

Thankfully, in all four break-ins the thieves completely ignored thousands of dollars worth of emergency medical equipment, apparently unaware of their value.

The thefts have inhibited Hatzalah volunteers’ ability to provide emergency medical assistance in a timely manner, as without their sirens and flashing light they are unable to pass civilian traffic on the neighborhood’s streets.

“Thankfully, in all four break-ins the thieves completely ignored thousands of dollars worth of emergency medical equipment, apparently unaware of their value.”

now the thieves will read that and next time go for the equipment.
