Gang of Pre-Teen Muggers Taken Down

Yesterday afternoon a Jewish girl was walking down Brooklyn Ave. near Empire Blvd. when she was approached by a group of five African-American boys ages 12-15. One of them snatched her phone from her hand and they all ran off.

In a later interview with CrownHeights.info, the shocked victim said “I never thought I would have to be cautious around little kids when walking down the street!”

A short while later, Shomrim received multiple calls from concerned residents that several rowdy young teenagers were walking through the area of Union St. and New York Ave. and looked like they were up to no good.

A Shomrim volunteer was dispatched to the area to keep an eye on them. Sure enough, after several minutes he witnessed the group snatch a phone out of the hands of a non-Jewish Caucasian woman, then scatter in all directions.

The volunteer immediately called for backup from police and fellow Shomrim members, and gave chase to the perpetrators. With the assistance of several police officers they managed to apprehend one of the teens in the President St. subway station on the corner of Nostrand Ave.

The boy cooperated with investigators, and by evening all five members of the group were in police custody.

It turns out that these teens had formed a gang, whose members police believe were connected to a rash of muggings against several Jewish and non-Jewish Caucasian people in the neighborhood. The police even found an Instagram page where these hoodlums would post photos of their crimes and boast about them.

The members of the gang are now facing multiple charges of aggravated robbery and/or larceny.

Later in evening Deputy Inspector of the 71st Precinct John Lewis called Shomrim coordinator Gadi Hershkop and thanked him and his volunteers for their instrumental support in apprehending the gang. “They have been terrorizing the area for quite some time, and thanks to Shomrim they have been taken off the streets,” he said.

    #1 You are wrong! It should be a warning to all, do not ignore your surroundings and keep that I-phone or what ever under wraps and not out in the open to be stolen. And, with the continuing hard times and dim outlook for youth, crime seems to be answer; I. e., fast food workers are out protesting for more wages just to keep even and how many more people will see reduced hours owing to Obama care as has been just done.

    The article states that the victims were Jewish AND non Jewish Caucasians; therefore, these were not all Antisemitic acts. Maybe none of them were. Maybe they just wanted to rob white people. Just saying….

      His/Her comment references Hussein’s quote that if he had a son, he would’ve looked like Trayvon Martin. I guess he meant HIS son would be a drug-taking, lowlife troublemaker. I shall refrain on commenting on this menuvel….actually, on both of them.

    of community service and if they don’t do it (community service) they should be send to juvenile hall for 3 months minimum

    i don’t remember brooklyn like this in the 50s…. we lived in sheepshead bay….my father came from debevoise street in willi b…when we went to visit zada my mom was very scared….we rode in a black and pink desoto…and a rambler with push button transmission on the dash… lol

    Special thanks to the young woman who was mugged. She bravely went to the 71st Precinct and spent hours driving around the neighborhood trying to identify the young boys in order to help the police! She is a hero and also needs to be praised!

    #8 is the only place you can use your phone on the streets? I personally find it soooooooooooo annoying when people walk towards me on the street but don’t see me because they are busy texting on their stupid phones! and #13 If you don’t understand what #11 means you must not be keeping up with the news. In other words nobama would defend the little creeps for doing what they do. duh. Wake up and smell the coffee.
