NYC Goes Over a Week Without a Reported Murder

In the bad old days, New York City once averaged six murders every 24 hours. But those bloody times are long gone. The latest evidence? Police say that as of Saturday morning, the city had gone 10 days without a reported homicide.

The New York Times reports that the city went eight days without a murder after Superstorm Sandy. There were weeklong homicide-free stretches in 2009 and 2010.

This latest lull comes as a bitter cold has kept many New Yorkers inside.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly tells the Times “We’re rooting for more cold weather.”

Police are investigating at least one unexplained death.

A woman’s body was found on a Brooklyn street Friday, but the cause of death wasn’t immediately clear.

If you don’t liking Whining leave New York City. We have a right to whine and complain if at least 1 person is murdered in New York City every week

Thugs don’t come out in bad weather. Nothing to do with safety, it’s because they can’t pull the trigger in below freezing temperatures.

#3, excellent point. The majority of murders and other violent crimes take place in the warm weather. The shkutsim are in hibernation now; come the spring they all come crawling out of their holes and out from under their rocks..
