The officers that spoke with the victim were very professional about the incident and made sure to properly document it. They asked the victim if there were any racial slurs directed at him during the assault, followed by which they took each of the suspects that were apprehended passed the ambulance for the Bochur to identify, two of which he ID’d as bystanders watching and encouraging the assault and the third he pointed to and said he was the one who actively assaulted him.
The Bochur was then transported to Kings County Hospital where according to reports he was released in time for Davening the next morning and was seen in Shul with dressings all over his head.
Later on Motzoai Yom Kippur a CBS Channel 2 news truck was seen on the corner talking to residents and the father of the victim. This is also the corner where Efraim Klein had been murdered in February of this year. For the stories about that incident Click Here.
This brutal assault is similar in nature to the one that had taken place on Shabbos just two weeks ago a few blocks away on Eastern Parkway and Rochester Ave. where a Bochur was struck in the head with a bat, only in that case that came along with racial slurs, Click Here for that story.

I have news … I have always been on those guys saying we can’t take the law into our own hands and we have to find other ways to fight back.

When will we Jews understand that we have to take our self-defense in our own hands? When will we start teaching our kids self-defense techniques? A Solution!!!!
Everyone has seen story after story of this abuse by the black community, and by the local officials. In addition, relying on the leaders of the Jewsih community is worthless, they are too busy fighting each other, to worry about Jews being beaten. Thjirdly, commenting on this website, will not accomplish anything (aside for the cops reading the comments, but really, it has been going on for months, and nothing has changed). There is really one solution.
There must be a meeting with a large presence, to publicly complain about the treatment being given by the members of the community. Again, this cannot and will not be arranged by the leaders of the community. (And the 71st precint meetings are not good eithher, they are at bad times, and not much will change anyway) The idea is to either get media attention (which has worked in communities in the past) or some other solution.
So my suggestion, is to head the meeting by the people who head the security in the community-SHOMRIM. And webby knows who to speak to and crownheights.info can inform people where to be when.
Now there is no point in the meeting getting political, we have only ONE agenda: The security of our community. If this can be arranged in a good time, and location, with NON POLITICAL people speaking and planning, everyone will be able to form a plan. (Just an idea, I am sure if presented properly most people of the community would chip in to pay for security on each corner.)
So please webby, and SHOMRIM take the next step, arrange the meeting!!!!

I am a martial arts instructor and I would like to share some tips in the event that you G-D forbid get into a situation like the above:
(The first and most important factor is to prevent getting into these situations by always beeing aware of your surroundings. If you walk down a street during the nighttime, try to find a partner to walk with. If you cannot find a partner, try avoiding streets which are outside the jewish part of crown heights. In my personal opinion anyware past New York Ave., Eastern Pkwy., Schenec. Ave., and lefferts blvd. during the nighttime are high "danger zones", because those areas are more black than Jewish. If you walk within these zones or outside these zones during the night, be aware of your surroundings. If you see a group of blacks from a distance that look suspicious, do not walk toward them, try to avoid them at all costs.
However, in the event that you do, in fact, get attacked, here are some tips:
In a mob, there is usualy one leader. The leader is usualy the attacker. The fact that they are walking in a group is a sign that they don’t have the guts to walk alone, which tells you that they are a bunch of whimps. The fact that they are attacking at night, and with a bat or a stick brings out this point even more.
If you are going to fight back, attack the leader of the group, and beat him mercilessly. There is a big chance that it will scare off the rest of them.
Tip:
The power of a baseball bat is in the tip of the bat. The lower part of the bat has a lot less power. This is why you will see in Major Leage baseball games, that if the batter hits the ball with the lower part of the bat, the bat will crack. If you want to stop a bat in action you should go for the lowest part of the bat you can reach, preferably up to the hands of the attacker. Stop the bat with one hand and strike with your other hand to an open area of the attacker, preferably a "pressure point". (To learn more about "pressure points", see your local martial artist.)
Knowledge of martial arts will show you how to wrestle a knife easily out of the hands of an attacker. You might want to take the time to learn this.

Together with that however I would like to suggest something I have really never heard before:
There must be someone amongst this community who has a good relationship with some of the black council members and activists. Wouldn’t it be wise to put heavy social and political pressure on THEM, the black leaders – who claim we have such good inter-community relations amongst the leaders of both communities – to speak out at a rally or a church gathering about this unbecoming violation of "human rights". Have them preaching at every gathering that every PROUD AND MATRIARCHAL black mother and Grandmother educate her children in the ways of their "great" Martin Luther King Jr. etc..playing (and praying this could get through to them)on the innate human nature of ‘what you don’t want done to yourself don’t do others’ and ‘you create your own environment and society’. This is an attempt to empower these suffering and viciously destructive ‘people’ with "control" over their destiny.

Exactly. There were so few of us that the blacks all came over to try the kosher food and it ended up treyf because of misuse of utensils – but by then our tiny contingent had already eaten anyway.
And while these black ladies and gentlemen were working people, professionals, businesspeople and clergy, and therefore far removed from the punks whom they despise more than we do, the fact is that the 71st is far bigger than our part of CH, and many of these people live on Clarkson, Utica and other streets where Anash do not live and rarely venture.
They show up at the meetings and do the talking, and they get the protection. We don’t seem to care and the cops just listen to the "squeaking wheel that gets greased."
I understand the low turnout at the last meeting as it was Rosh Hashanah time- and the next one may well be Chol Hamoed if they are every 3 weeks.
But as soon as there is one on a regular day, we need to show up berov am and show the 71st that we care and that we will not put up with the increase in crime.

There must be someone amongst this community who has a good relationship with some of the black council members and activists. Wouldn’t it be wise to put heavy social and political pressure on THEM, the black leaders – who claim we have such good inter-community relations amongst the leaders of both communities – to speak out at a rally or a church gathering about this unbecoming violation of "human rights". Have them preaching at every gathering that every PROUD AND MATRIARCHAL black mother and Grandmother educate her children in the ways of their "great" Martin Luther King Jr. etc..playing (and praying this could get through to them)on the innate human nature of ‘what you don’t want done to yourself don’t do others’ and ‘you create your own environment and society’. This is an attempt to empower these suffering and viciously destructive ‘people’ with "control" over their destiny.

This is not a bad idea. Another idea would be to contact associations of former Caribbean policemen and pay them for security (many of these men work as security guards during the day in any case). They have no qualms about beating a punk to a pulp (and no thoughts of anti-Semitisn; some are probably a great audience for talks about the 7 Mitzvos), and if they do it, no one can claim racism!
Besides, these guys play cricket, and a flat cricket bat is far more efficient than a baseball bat when it comes to beating up lowlife punks :) :) :)!

Let a few wealthy people from crown heights stop doing over their homes and buying nice cars and put money together and pay for proper security over crown heights. what is everyone waiting for a death god forbid!? Good point, housing costs for us is sky rocketing, and all of the remaining holes are occupied by the chayes. This goes hand in hand with the rate of crime. Although it is said of the mishna that bava kama comes first since removing hazard and danger is a priority, before the monetary issues of bava metziah, nevertheless, one of the key obstacles in attaining safety in our community is the fact that the properties are infested with criminals. Maybe if our housing would be better regulated then it would be utilizes by our own, and the light will dispel the dark, naturally.

My son was beaten up in march this past year, on this same block. Erev Yom kippur we got a call that they want to give the guy who beat him up ONE MONTH jail time and 5 years probabtion. They asked if we think this is fair. No way I said. The kid beat my son so viciously, that he could have killed him and he definitely deserves a harsher sentence. Time will tell if he will get one. What I really think he needs is boot camp. Will jail really do anything?

Does anyone here realise that in Williamsburg, and Boro Park, and even Flatbush, the stories that are coomon day occurrances in Crown Hieghts are newsworthy incidents, with media coverage on front pages of newspapers, and top of the hour reports?
