CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Chaim Hershkop, a father whose son Itchy attends Head Start at Lubavitcher Yeshiva, took time this morning to speak to the kids about lending a helping hand, safety and what it is that he does as a volunteer in his spare time.
What is Shomrim? Do I need to be a part of Shomrim to help another Jew?
One child spoke up and related how he once needed help getting his bicycle up to his family’s apartment and a mommy helped him! “So when I do that am I a Shomrim too?” he asked, to which Chaim answered “when you are able to, and you help someone you do it for the mitzvah, and you don’t need a special jacket or car to do it.”
The boys all got a flashlight and a short tour of the tools Shomrim uses to help anyone who calls on them. The boys also got a sit inside a Shomrim scooter and toot its horn!
