‘Chaptzem’ Call Nabs Mugger

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A mugger was apprehended and arrested after a call for ‘chaptzem’ [get him] was heard and many responded.

The incident began when a Bochur witnessed the Black male attack and steal a purse from a woman near the corner of Albany and Carroll and called out for help. Hundreds of people were on their way home from Shul and answered the call, nabbing the suspect on Kingston and Carroll.

One yungerman pounced on the suspect and held him until police arrived, who took both the Jew and the suspect into custody after witnessing the Jew ‘holding’ the suspect.

Shomrim received many calls to their hotline, and once the Jew was taken into custody, an urgent search for the victim followed, in hopes of identifying the mugger, and to prevent the arrest of the Jew for ‘assault’.

Together Shomrim and Police found the victim, who was a black woman, in a building on Carroll and Kingston, and she identified her attacker. The yungerman was then released, while the mugger was arrested.

that is disgusting the nypd has no right to take a yid into custody for saveing a life

  • old ohlie torah boy

crazy systim ,, this was not the way it was years ago . to bad . thank g-d they found the woman , do think she appreciate wat a jew did 4 her ? i dont know

  • Let them kill themselves

No good deed goes unpunished, right???

Why didn’t the victim hang around to show appreciation to the man who saved her? Typical. Hang the Jew who caught her mugger. Makes you wonder why the hell we bother. Let’s just look after our own…that includes the Hatzalah members who go out of their way to help ALL victims of accidents. Don’t know why they bother either.

In case you wonder, this isn’t racist, I’m being honest. Do our Black neighbors risk themselves to help us? What a joke.

As a PS O,nce again, the poor little Black perp is an innocent victim & the police arrest the Jew. Zakir, where are you? MIA like your predecessors.

“Chaptz em”, in Crown Heights?! I don’t think so. Since when does anyone in CH speak the Hungarian dialect of Yiddish/ In the Litvishe Iddesh that we speak, the cry would surely be “chapt im”.

  • To Number 5!

You say would they ever do that? no they wouldn’t, we are Jewish we have differences then them and that just may be one of them.Of course a Jew is more likely to help save another person regardless if they are Jewish or not!

  • bookman

chaptzem should be used only where there is an attack against a yiddishe person, otherwise it can backfire. or even be done deliberately to cause a yid to be in trouble for assault.

  • NONE

To number 2: THAY SAW HIM HOLDING DOWN THEBLACK GUY… HOW ARE THEY TO KNOW HE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING? USE YOUR SEICHEL. YES YOU HAVE TIO STAND UP FOR YOUR FELLOW YID BUT IN THIS CASE IT’S DIFFERENT.

  • Unfortunately

Unfortunately in today’s “politically correct” environment holding the yungerman by the police was the right thing to do to prevent a Sharpton riot.

I read crownheights.info alot just for the news as well as the comments for fun and see others perspective, and i honestly think you all are childish for constantly pointing your fingers at either the police or african-americans. I, myself am a yid, and i think you guys are honestly being juvenile and racsist by doing that. Most policemen are very nice and help people keep them safe. The police arrested the yungerman because they didnt at first know what happened. they just saw holding the african-american down. And as for african-americans, most are wonderful. I have a lot of friends that are of all ethnic backgrounds…so you should ALL grow up and stop judging ppl!!!!!

    RACISM RACISM RACISM!!!

WE SUCK WE SHOUD BE DEMONSTRATING AND RIOTING LIKE THEY WOULD THEN MAYBE THEY WOULDNT JUST TAKE ADVANTAGE OF US WE NEED A JEWISH AL SHARPTON TO CRY ANTI- SEMITISM EVERY TIME A SILLY INCIDENT LIKE THIS HAPPENS!!

Boruch hashem the bocher was relesed!!!!!!!Hashem suere waches over us!!!!!!!!

  • Tolerance Needed

Of course we should help all people, Jew and gentle alike.
Any criticism from this event comes from wackos. The bachur is a hero, the victim is a victim, and the robber is a criminal, and the police are acting professionally.I Observe from the comments a lot of bigotry, hatred, and lack of tolerance for people who are “different”.

  • To #5, please read

    To #5:

B’li ayin hara, my non-Jewish neighbors (Maple St. area) go out of their way to do acts of kindness and courtesy to us, B“H. Often, I’m late moving my car to the other side of the street, and I’ll get someone ringing my doorbell to make sure I didn’t forget.

And on Shabbos and Yom Tov ”someone“ moves our garbage cans back to our yard from the curb, after the garbage has been collected.

Also, when we’ve had any minor issues with any of our non-Jewish neighbors, we usually hear from our other non-Jewish neighbors to let us know that they side with us.

In addition, I find that my non-Jewish neighbors are also better about returning a ”Good morning“ greeting from me, than are my fellow Yidden. [I’m a lady; I only greet ladies and girls, Jew and non-Jew alike.]

My husband has very good relationships — businesslike and friendly — with our non-Jewish neighbors as well, B”H.

I don’t think, #5, you should be so quick to assume the NORM would be for the non-Jews to not help us. Every group (including ours) has its selfish or bitter exceptions, but overall, we all want a safe neighborhood, and we all care about the safety of the people of all faiths and colors.

#16, oib azoi iz och un vey, vos iz gevorn mit Iddesh in Crown Heights. (Unless the person shouting was a visitor from Williamsburg, or some other place where they speak loshon “etz”.)

  • Yo

Whats he running from? if he did nothing wrong?
Why do the cops assume the Jewish guy beat him
    down?

He was held him down and its legaly called a “Citizen Arrest”
till the cops arrived (2 mintues later) thats all!

    “Citizen Arrest”
As a general rule, every state permits a civilian to make an arrest if a “felony” (a very serious crime) is being perpetrated in the presence of that civilian. Where differences among the states occur is in matters involving “misdemeanors” (less serious crimes), and where a felony is not witnessed by the civilian.
