Cong. B’nai Avraham under the directorship of Rabbi Ari and Sterna Raskin has been the victim of a number of a misfortunes, most notably that of the theft of a Sefer Torah a little over a month ago.

The incident took place Monday night at the Shul located at 117 Remsen Street in the Brooklyn Heights section of Brooklyn, where a man managed to gain access to the building through a magnetic lock then smashing the locks of the rabbi’s office. This comes in addition to another break-in of similar nature which took place last week.

“It’s very frustrating, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure it never happens again,” said Rabbi Ari Raskin. Shternie Raskin, the rabbi’s wife and the synagogue’s preschool director, said they know the burglar. He started coming to the synagogue five years ago and asked for charity, and the rabbi initially obliged. But when the man kept coming back, and was caught stealing Tzedakah Pushkas on his way out, the rabbi asked him politely to leave. Instead, the man returns every so often and tries to break in.

“I don’t feel that [the burglar] is dangerous — it’s just annoying,” said Shternie Raskin. “And it’s expensive to buy the new locks and the door.”

It is a shame that some individuals aren’t able to appreciate services that are for a community.
Unfortunately I myself have been told to leave some “religous” places and now more than ten years later the thought came to mind that instead of telling someone to get out it is more helpful to tell them where to go.
There are tests & it doesn’t have to be at the expense of place of religous worship if a real warning isn’t heeded turning the other cheek isn’t the jewish way.
Can a person be physically beaten for a petty crime ?

Why didn’t they get cameras by now? A fire-proof door and a top of the line lock? It would have paid off by now! What a waste of money on cheap doors and locks!
If they know who it is they need to go to the police!

What has the sefer torah got to do with this? It wasn’t taken from the shul.

What do tahaluchas? Was it a Lubavitcher from CH who broke into the shul? I doubt it.
