Chief Rabbi Yisroel Silberstein, during a dinner last year Chanukka

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia — Primorye Chief Rabbi, U.S. citizen Yisroel Silberstein was attacked on a central street of Vladivostok, a source in the Federation of Russian Jewish Communities told Interfax-Religion on Thursday.

“A short man wearing a hood hit the rabbi on the head. The rabbi fell down unconscious, and the assailant grabbed his bag containing an expensive laptop and ran away,” he said.

Silberstein regained consciousness and went home unaided, but had to call an ambulance from home. The ambulance vehicle took him to hospital. Doctors diagnosed the rabbi with concussion.

The rabbi made a statement to the Vladivostok police, but the immediate search for the assailant was fruitless. A criminal case was opened.

The federation said it might have been a mere felony, not an anti-Semitic crime.

FELONY SHMELONY!!!! Anyone walking down the street with a black hat and a beard — definitely a Felony with an Anti-Semitic hit. The Russian hooligans need to be hit with major jail sentences to at least humble them slightly.

  • STUPID THING TO SAY

What is wrong with the way Shluchim dress? Apart from in Israel where they dress – well, like the rest of Israel – I always see them in suits and ties.

HKB”H should enable this shliach to continue from strength to strength.

  • Bentch the shluchim
