Clarke, Dems, Vote against Pro-Israel Resolution

Ms. Clarke at a function in Crown Heights congratulating her on being re-elected.

Yesterday, 33 Democrats voted “no” and 20 Democrats voted “present” on House Resolution 867, which condemned the “Goldstone report” on Israel’s conduct in Gaza last winter. The final roll call vote on the House floor was 344 for, 36 against, and 22 present.

H. Res. 867, introduced by Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, calls on the Obama administration to oppose efforts by the Arab states in the UN General Assembly and other international forums to use the Goldstone report as a propaganda tool and a diplomatic weapon to attack Israel. In all, 21 percent of the Democratic caucus did not support this pro-Israel measure, including Crown Heightses representative Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke.

Clarke has long touted herself as a friend to the Crown Heights Jewish community, and a supporter of Israel. In a statement she said “I have long supported, and continue to unequivocally support, Israel’s right to exist and to defend itself from the aggression of those that would seek to destroy this nation. Ultimately, it is in all of our interest to remain focused on assisting Israel in order to achieve a lasting peace. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to achieve our shared goal.”

Eli Slavin, the congresswoman’s liaison to the Jewish community, did not immediately return calls for comment.

Matt Brooks, Executive Director of the Republican Jewish Coalition said “The Goldstone report was an egregious example of the United Nations Human Rights Council at work. At the instigation of the UN’s powerful Organization of the Islamic Conference, UNHRC commissioned a report on Israel’s Operation Cast Lead in Gaza last winter that was intended to portray Israel as the aggressor, as intentionally causing Palestinian civilian casualties, and as a violator of human rights. The resulting report was biased and inaccurate.”

We are very concerned that 21 percent of the Democrats in the U.S. House (53 of 256) refused to support H.Res. 867, including many top Democratic leaders and important and influential House committee and subcommittee chairmen.

Democrats continue to campaign in the Jewish community as unwavering friends of Israel, but when it comes to acting on those promises, leading Democrats fall short.

  • vote her out

This is a disgrace! As the previous commentator said, this has to be publicized to ALL Jews in crown heights and the district…Next Elections we have to vote her out!!!

  • boruch

To vote with the minority against this bill is an outrage. Ms. Clarke, you are no friend of the jewish community.

  • NOT SURPRISED

Dan, why not a Republican, is that just to hard of a name for you to spit out?
You all seem so shocked! Yvette did not change, she is the same, do you not follow the bills she is voting on, such as spear heading the gay marriage bill, healthcare, ect. ect, these things also will effect your life, she knows you have all sold your souls for a few photo ops, a smile and a pat on the back, I am sure she also has a good laugh at the thought of this community, wow they have such a difficult time with the Christians holding on to their values and belief in G-d not so with the Jews!

  • Truth be told

Eli Slavin cares only about having his picture taken. Nothing else whatsoever, not the community, not the Jewish people is more precious to him than getting his picture taken with a politician.

  • Ariyeh Leib Segall

We can see who the politicians are in our community..
Our very own version of Rahm Emmanuel, David Axelrod, etc…
Perfect examples of why nothing ever gets done in our community…
There are those types that are too busy trying to kiss up to the ‘right people’ to care about those that are really in need!!!

  • Question

Why a Dem? Is Republican a bad word, or just so liberal can’t imagine voting for someone with value and morals?

  • Milhouse

Note that only three Republicans voted against it. One was Ron Paul, who votes against ALL such resolutions on principle. Another was the Arab Charles Boustany from Louisiana. and the third was Geoff Davis from Kentucky; I don’t know what his deal is. The Arab Darrel Issa voted for the resolution.

MAYBE IT’S FINALLY TIME FOR YIDDEN TO STOP SUPPORTING DEMOCRATS.

  • Levi

Why in the world did all the comments turn on eli

  • CN

Israeli politians are ultimately to blame because they took Israeli troops and all Jews out of Gaza a few years earlier which led to the situation where Hamas felt empowered to launch its rockets which led to innocent deaths of Jews and non-Jews.

  • Just by the way.........

Loshon Horah, and Motzei shem rah is a grave sin, that deters the coming of Moshiach however you look at it.
Why do you commenters feel the need to broadcast these acts of name calling and blaming?
Do you think it will make him change?
Otherwise, by acting in the way you did, you are no worse than Eli.

So sorry to burst your bubble guys!!

    Tachlis

Yvette Clarke has ineffective staff in Washington and New York. She is not well respected; has very little intellect.

Chanina and Eli are useless. If there’s no camera, there’s no gefilte fish.

Crown Heights Jews have annointed Chanina as political leader for life. And he gets Eli jobs.

Have readers figured things out yet?

  • Clarke-s Voice Mailboxes Full

    B”H

    Dear Moshe G,

Thanks for the info. on how to contact Ms. Clarke. That is the most constructive post yet, mamosh.

(Unfortunately, it’s impossible to leave a message at either the Brooklyn or DC offices, as both voice mailboxes are full!)

But still, you’re on the right track, Moshe G.
