Chicago Mayor Presented with Crystal Menorah

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Devon Avenue Streetscape project in Chicago’s West Rogers Park neighborhood was held in front of the F.R.E.E. Synagogue on Thursday evening.

Rabbi Levi Notik, who chaired the presentation, thanked Alderman Debra L. Silverstein for her pioneering and overseeing this tremendous project start to finish, and revitalizing Devon Ave. into a magnificent street. He then presented the Alderman with a hand-crafted Dreidel.

Notik then addressed the Mayor and spoke about the significance of the ribbon-cutting being on Chanukah, when we celebrate and kindle the Menorah for 8 nights, reminding us of the miraculous triumph of freedom over oppression, spirit over matter, and light over darkness. He thanked the mayor for his many efforts on behalf of the project, and introduced Executive Director of F.R.E.E. Rabbi Shmuel Notik to present the Mayor with an exquisite crystal Menorah.

Zelig and Mussie Notik, students at Cheder Lubavitch Hebrew Day School, were busy doing Mivtzoim, handing out Chnaukah kits to those assembled.
