Spreading Warmth to Cold London Streets

What a Chanuka! Every night of Chanukah, large crowds gathered to take part in the Chabad of Southgate Menorah Lighting on Cockfosters Road, within view of the constantly busy M25 motorway.

With doughnuts (choice of flavours), glow sticks (choice of colours), and Dreidels, people joined the lively singing and dancing; some stayed a while, talking, eating and enjoying the special feeling of celebrating Chanuka proudly and confidently, with true Jewish warmth in the cold English streets.

Some were celebrating the holiday for the first time; others made sure not to miss out on the annual celebrations and some came every night. Jewish people of all ages and walks of life enjoyed the unity and ambience; all left with the light of the menorah burning brightly inside, taking the message of Chanuka into the cold winter night and the months ahead.

Mr. Stephen Pack, president of united synagogue of Great Britain, addressed the crowd and thanked the local Shliach, Rabbi Hirshel Kesselman, for making this menorah lighting possible, and for all the work Chabad does in the area. Also attending were: World Famous Chazan Rabbi Dov Speier, Head Shliach to the UK Rabbi Nachman Sudak, and local dignitaries Mr. M. Vincent and Mr. J. Platt.
