Hundreds Celebrate Sukkot at Sydney’s Luna Park
Hundreds of children, parents and families came together for a memorable Sukkot celebration at Sydney’s iconic Luna Park, enjoying a beautiful day of sunshine, thrilling rides and Jewish tradition against the spectacular backdrop of Sydney Harbour.
Organised by Chabad Youth NSW, with the support of 26 local community organisations, the annual Sukkot in Luna Park event brought families from across Sydney’s Jewish community together to celebrate one of the most joyous festivals on the Jewish calendar.
A beautifully decorated Sukkah was set up at the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, with views of the Sydney Opera House, providing a unique setting for participants to fulfil the mitzvot of Sukkot.
Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to make the blessings over the Lulav and Etrog, enjoy kosher food in the Sukkah and experience the special atmosphere of the festival while spending quality time with family and friends.
With beautiful weather and hundreds of smiling faces throughout the park, the occasion was a wonderful expression of the spirit of Sukkot, traditionally known as Zman Simchateinu, the Season of Our Rejoicing.
Rabbi Elimelech Levy, Director of Chabad Youth NSW, said the event was about bringing Jewish families together and creating positive, meaningful experiences for children.
“Sukkot is known as the Festival of Joy, and what better way to celebrate than seeing hundreds of children enjoying themselves with their families and friends,” Rabbi Levy said.
“There’s something very special about seeing children having the time of their lives on the rides, while just a short walk away, families are making a blessing on the Lulav and Etrog or sitting together in a Sukkah overlooking our magnificent Sydney Harbour.
“It’s a wonderful reminder that Jewish life and tradition are not only about what we learn and observe, but also about the joy, connection and wonderful memories we create together.”
The event was supported by a police presence, helping ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants. The day proceeded smoothly, with families able to relax and enjoy the festivities.
Rabbi Avremi Joseph, program director at CYNSW expressed his appreciation to Luna Park management and staff for their cooperation and support.
“We are very grateful to the team at Luna Park for facilitating this event and making special discounted group ride tickets available to our community. Their cooperation helps make this wonderful experience more accessible to Jewish families across Sydney.
“We also extend our sincere thanks to the 26 local organisations who supported the event, and to NSW Police for their presence and assistance.”
For Chabad Youth NSW, the celebration was another opportunity to help strengthen Jewish identity, foster community connections and provide children with positive experiences that will remain with them for years to come.
“At the heart of everything we do is the belief that every Jewish child should feel connected, included and proud of their Jewish identity,” Rabbi Levy added.
“Seeing so many families celebrating together, with such genuine happiness, is exactly what Sukkot is all about.”
