Bringing The Sukkah To The Streets of Sydney
This Sukkos, we took Jewish life out onto the streets.
Across Sydney’s CBD and Inner East, our Mobile Sukkah travelled from location to location, welcoming hundreds of people to step away from work and daily life for a few minutes to shake Lulav and Esrog, make a bracha, grab some lunch, share a L’chaim and celebrate Sukkos together.
Businesspeople, office workers, families, students, locals and visitors. Some stayed for two minutes. Others sat down and stayed much longer. Old friends reconnected, new friendships were made, and people who may not have otherwise had the opportunity were able to celebrate Sukkos right in the middle of their working day.
There is something incredibly powerful about seeing a Sukkah sitting amongst the skyscrapers of Sydney.
Sukkos reminds us that our strength does not ultimately come from the walls around us, but from the faith, values and people we carry within them.
And this week, Jewish life didn’t wait for people to come looking for it.
We brought it to them.
From the heart of the CBD to Barangaroo and the Inner East, one street, one person and one mitzvah at a time.
