Thousands Gather for Central Simchas Beis Hashoeva Celebration in Jerusalem
Thousands of residents of Jerusalem and visitors from across the country gathered Monday night for the city’s central Simchas Beis Hashoeva celebration, a traditional event organized by Tzeirei Agudas Chabad of Jerusalem for more than 30 years.
This year’s celebration was held on an especially large and elaborate scale, with thousands of participants from across the spectrum of Jerusalem’s Jewish communities filling the Chabad House complex and dancing together in an atmosphere of pure, spirited and uplifting Chassidic joy.
The evening featured Chassidic singer Mendy Wiesel, accompanied by Chassidic keyboardist Elimelech Weisberg and his orchestra. Rabbi Aharon Sitbon moved the crowd with heartfelt and inspirational niggunim, while renowned cantor Rabbi David Zeitig performed a selection of special cantorial pieces traditionally sung at farbrengens by the Rebbe.
A particularly spectacular moment came during a performance by entertainer Daniel Elmalich, who thrilled the crowd with an impressive fire-torch display, recalling the blazing torches that illuminated Jerusalem during the Simchas Beis Hashoeva celebrations in the days of the Beis Hamikdash.
During the event, twelve children took the stage and recited the Twelve Pesukim and statements of Chazal, with the entire crowd joining along.
Rabbi Yaakov Halperin, a Chabad Shliach and representative to the Jerusalem Municipality, conveyed the blessings of the mayor and the Jerusalem Municipality to those attending the celebration. Rabbi Halperin, who supports the activities of Chabad Shluchim and institutions throughout Jerusalem year-round, offered his blessings to the crowd and the Shluchim on the occasion of the festive gathering.
The event was emceed by Rabbi Naftali Hakohen Roth, chairman of Tzeirei Agudas Chabad of Jerusalem, who has led and accompanied the annual celebration over the years. The organization and production were overseen by Rabbi Noam Roth, CEO of Tzeirei Agudas Chabad of Jerusalem, together with a dedicated team that worked for weeks to ensure the success of the celebration.
The festivities continued late into the night, with hours of dancing and celebration, concluding with a sense of spiritual uplift and the timeless words of Chazal: “Whoever has never seen the joy of Simchas Beis Hashoeva has never seen joy in his life.”
