New App “Hachlata” Helps Turn Good Resolutions Into Lasting Habits
The hachlata is often the easy part. The real challenge comes afterward—when the inspiration of a farbrengen fades and everyday life gets busy again.
A new free app called Hachlata, created by Lavi Klein, was designed to help address exactly that challenge. The app allows users to take on a hachlata, choose a symbol to represent it, and check in each day as they continue keeping it. As the streak grows, the symbol progresses through different stages, providing a visual reminder of the progress being made.
The app includes seven areas in which users can take on a hachlata: learning, davening, halacha, minhagim, hiskashrus, community involvement and personal growth.
Built specifically with the Jewish calendar in mind, Hachlata pauses streaks for Shabbos and Yom Tov, allowing users to check in after Havdalah without losing their progress. The app also includes gentle reminders, streak protection and the ability to create a chabura with friends, allowing each person to maintain their own hachlata while encouraging one another.
Privacy is another central feature. Hachlata is private by default, contains no advertisements, and the developer says the app is designed without tracking. Users can also generate a Du”ch of their progress to send to the Rebbe’s Ohel.
The app is available now as a free download, with the developer encouraging Anash to use the weeks of Elul to begin building the hachlatos they hope to carry with them into the new year.
