Ian Epstein, The Jewish Steward On American Airlines Flight 5342

The disastrous collision of American Airlines Flight 5342 which collided with a military helicopter over DC Wednesday night, left no survivors, with a Jewish Steward being one of the fatalities.

“It is with a very heavy heart and extreme sadness that myself along with our children Hannah Epstein and Joanna Epstein, and his sister Robbie Epstein Bloom her husband Steven Bloom and nieces Andi and Dani, inform you that Ian Epstein was one of the flight attendants on American Airlines Flight 5342 that collided last night when they were landing in DC,” Debi, Ian’s wife, wrote on Facebook.

Immediately flying out to DC, Debi was in touch with her local Chabad which connected her with Chabad of Washington DC.

The crash took the lives of more than 60 people, including the two American Airlines pilots, staff, passengers, and three military men. According to preliminary reports, the control tower at the DC airport was staffed by only one person, leaving him to do the tasks normally done by two control operators.
