Community to Protest Iran Deal; Code Pink and Neturei Karta Plan Counter-Protest

A rally and press conference scheduled for later this evening in Crown Heights is expected to draw hundreds of residents opposing the nuclear deal with Iran. CrownHeights.info has learned that radical anti-Israel groups who support the Iran deal, including Code Pink and Neturei Karta, are planning to attend as well in a bid to disrupt the community’s unified voice.

Three members of New York State’s legislature – NYS Senator Jesse Hamilton and NYS Assembymen Dov Hikind and David Greenfield – have called a press conference and rally today, Wednesday, August 26th beginning at 6:00pm on Eastern Pkwy and Kingston Ave. in order to voice their opposition to the ‘Iran deal’ and call on members of congress and senators to oppose it as well.

They called on residents to stand beside them and voice their opposition as well.

The event has also drawn the interest of groups supporting the Iran deal, including the radical left-wing group Code Pink and the militantly anti-Israel Neturei Karta, who indicated that they will be attending as well.

The following is a press release sent from Senator Jesse Hamilton’s office:

Senator Jesse Hamilton, NYS Assembly Member Dov Hikind, and NYC Council Member David Greenfield, and community advocates will call on New York State Congress members to oppose the Iran Nuclear deal on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 in front of the Jewish Children’s Museum at 792 Eastern Parkway , Brooklyn, NY 11213 (Eastern Pkwy and Kinston Ave).

In addition community residents Rabbi Jacob Goldstein, Cantor Shlomie Rabin, and Devorah Halberstam will join in urging members of Congress to vote “no” on the Iran nuclear deal. Rabbi Jacob Goldstein, Chaplain Colonel (Ret.) of the US Armed Forces, served 38 years in the military including five deployed combat missions. Devorah Halberstam is the mother of the late Ari Halberstam, who was killed in the terrorist shooting on the Brooklyn Bridge in 1994.

“Iran Nuclear Deal supporters focus on the early years. Well, what happens when Iran receives generous upfront sanctions relief? When tens of billions of dollars go to terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah or to groups who have plotted attacks in Buenos Aires, Berlin, Jerusalem, and Washington DC? And further down the line, this deal allows restrictions to phase out over time. I stand with my community in demanding a better deal: prevent sponsorship of terror, stop Iran menacing us and our allies, and don’t rely on trusting words from Iran to assure our security.” said NYS Senator Jesse Hamilton.

“The deal with Iran, the world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism, is extraordinarily naive and dangerous. Based on initial reports, this is a total capitulation. The only winner is Iran. The deal essentially paves Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon,” said NYS Assembly Member Dov Hikind.

“I am proud of Senator Schumer and other members of New York’s Congressional delegation for standing up for the Jewish community, Israel and America’s security. My problem with the Iran deal is simple: it’s a bad deal. It does not protect anyone. It is time that our Brooklyn representatives followed Schumer’s lead and let Obama know that we can negotiate a better deal for America,” said Councilman Greenfield.

Cantor Shlomie Rabin will sing a prayer for peace and a prayer in memory of all those lost in terror attack worldwide. Shlomie serves as a senior cantor in Midtown Manhattan and has performed in Israel, Australia, Spain and Ukraine.
