Miami Teenagers Shown What DUI Crash Looks Like

Rabbi Leibel Miller, Director of Chevra Kadisha-Chabad of Florida, joined with Chesed Shel Emes (CSE) and the Miami Beach Fire Rescue & Police Departments for the staging of a mock DUI accident, fatality and funeral at the Miami Beach Hebrew Academy High School.

The program, called ‘Live to See Your Future,’ took place on Tuesday, October 30; it consisted of an anti-DUI mock car crash presentation for the High School, designed to teach the students about the consequences of drinking and distracted driving.

Rabbi Miller explained the Jewish funeral traditions, and how the Chevra Kadisha and Chesed Shel Emes are involved when an accident occurs, G-d forbid.

When I had driver’s Ed in High School, they showed films involving actual accident scenes, in an effort to discourage the students from irresponsible driving.
One of these is an oldie called, “Wheels of Tragedy,” where a senior highway patrolman is teaching a rookie his job. Among the bloody accidents was one involving teenage kids who caused their own deaths because they wanted to have “fun.” So, here they are filling out the paperwork, lamenting the horrible scene in front of them. The rookie asked, “what’s next?” The senior responded,“now we have to inform the next of kin.”
They go knocking on the door of someone’s house. The senior tells the rookie,“this is the part you’re going to hate the most,” because here they are informing the parents what happened to their kid(s).
