Israel Suffers First Fatality Due to Hamas Projectile

Two Israelis were wounded following a barrage of rocket and mortar fire, one of whom succumbed to his wounds. The victim, Dror Chanin, 37, was at the Erez Crossing delivering food and cheer to soldiers when a barrage of rockets and mortars rained down and critically wounding him.

This incident comes just hours after Hamas, the terror group which has been firing rockets indiscriminately into Israeli civilian population centers for the past 7 days, rejected a proposed cease fire proposed by Egypt.

Chanin and another man, 44, were wounded at the Erez Crossing, which serves as one of the main crossings between the Gaza Strip and Israel. The men were there giving out food and cheering up the soldiers that man the outpost.

Both men were rushed to Brazilai Hospital, Chanin succumbed to his wounds en route, while the other man was listed in stable condition.

What happened to the idea that tefillin would protect us? What happened to doing mitzvos would protect us?

Tefillin and Mitzvot certainly bring down keilim for more Bracha and good in this world– as do the tefillot of those Holy Neshamas that have passed on to the Next World.

Baruch Dayan Emes. May Dor’s neshuma be elevated to the loftiest heights as he joins the martyrs who died Al Kiddush HaShem performing mitzvos, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice on Shiva Asar B’Tammuz. May his memory serve as a blessing to Klal Yisroel. — Yitzchok Winer, Palo Alto, CA

This man knew what was the right thing to do. I’m sad and angry that a fellow Jew died at the hands of terrorists, but I’m happy that he didn’t die with his back turned to the missiles while running for his life into a bomb shelter. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of reading about Israel’s weak response while some 70 years after the Holocaust, Jews are once again running for their lives–and on Holy soil, to boot–while the government sits on its hands and does nothing compared to the shocking display of fireworks it could easily unleash on Gaza and put this problem to bed in at most a few days.

    He’s a Jew –
What kind of kipa, or even whether he wore a kipa is irrelevant. it is clear he was a real zaddik.

May Hashem watch over our soldiers and citizens and may our family – the Jews in Chu’l, join our bretheren in the holy land speedily in our days amen.
