Italian Art with Chasidic Twist Wows New York Crowd

Last night, Thursday, June 12, dozens gathered at The Creative Soul Gallery in Crown Heights for the opening reception of its first solo art show, featuring the powerfully vibrant works of Italian artist David Ariel de Guglielmi.

Yitzchok Moully, the founder of the Creative Soul, met David on a trip to the Jewish Ghetto of Italy. That meeting led to the creation of the Creative soul.

Moully describes David’s work as “filled with a love of G-d and his people, full of life, vibrancy, and meaning.” “David’s work is an expression of his passion for his Judaism and his desire to share it with everyone who comes his way,” he said.

Following a serious car accident, David – already an internationally successful artist –  began looking deeper into his Jewish faith. Enamored with what he found, David became a practicing Jew, but dropped his artistic career. Eventually, he discovered a way of melding his two identities, and his artwork blossomed again, this time with Jewish themes.

David currently shows his artwork in his gallery in the Jewish Ghetto of Venice, Italy. This is his first show in the U.S.

Located at 386 Kingston, the Creative Soul Gallery focuses on Contemporary Chassidic Art, and has been exploring and celebrating Judaism through the arts for over 3 years through pop-up shows in temporary spaces. This is the first solo show in its new, permanent location.
