Fathers and Sons Unite for Day of Learning and Fun

From all over Brooklyn, fathers and sons eagerly made their way to United Lubavitcher Yeshiva on Ocean Parkway early Sunday morning, 6:30am.

The sun still hiding below the horizon, a Kol Torah emanated out of the Yeshiva’s Beis Medrish, as the fathers and sons learned together Torah and Chassidus.

A beautiful Shachris followed, with fathers and sons Davening side by side.

After a hearty breakfast, the group traveled to the Delaware Water Gap for a hike up the Appalachian Trail. Along the way, all were playing ‘on the go,’ a new torah card game to make the travel even more productive.  After some scenic pictures in the mountains, they continued to Montage Mountain Resort for the last day of skiing for 2014.

Switching roles

Once at the ski slopes things really changed: the children became the patient teachers that their fathers had been just hours earlier.

Each son engaged in this labor of love, teaching their fathers how to ski, helping them up and encouraging them.  “It was a truly beautiful experience,” mentioned one father.

After Mincha, lunch and some more father and son learning time, they were all on the slopes again until sundown. Maariv, followed by dinner and roasted marshmallows around a bonfire, brought the day’s program to an end. Everyone then traveled back to Brooklyn.

“Our children are the most important thing in the world; that is why I’m here” remarked one father, Mr. Minsky. “We should take heed and make family time our priority,” he said.

A special thank you goes to Mrs. Miller and the ULYOP PTA for making this program a reality.

  • Thank you!

An enormous “Thank You!” to Rabbi Dechter and Rabbi Harari for allowing the yeshiva learning of this past Sunday to move to a different location for the day!

It was such an amazing opportunity for the boys to not only share their school lives with their fathers in a fun environment but was a great lesson in Kibbud Av and patience. My son had to display the middah of patience over and over while teaching my husband a thing or two about the slopes.

The bonding thru accomplishment and achievement is an awesome one that is unparalleled. I am grateful for the smile on my son’s face when he came home after a tiring 18 hour day. He left home at 6:30am with a smile of excitement on his face and returned after midnight with a smile of pride on his face. “He had the best day ever!”

There is nothing more a parent wants for a child.

So thank you again ULY OP for your incredible insights in teaching the whole child.
